Hotel Crown Hills Kushiro is a business hotel located very conveniently across from Kushiro train station. This three star hotel is your typical hotel, and although it is not luxurious, it has everything you need (especially if you are traveling on a budget). The rooms are small but clean. Importantly, they have air conditioning plus free wifi in all the rooms. There is a restaurant on the top floor with views of Mt. Oakan, Mt. Meakan, and the Pacific Ocean. Here you can get a nice Western or Japanese dinner and all for ¥1000. The hotel also serves a buffet breakfast.

It is just a one minute walk from Matsukaze-cho tram stop and is directly across from Kankanji. It is also a seven minute walk from Hakodate train station. The rooms here are clean and comfortable. The hotel has 98 guest rooms. This includes 81 single rooms, 11 double rooms, and 6 twin rooms. The twin rooms have nice views over the city. Unizo Inn Express is part of the Unizo Hotel chain throughout Japan. It is perfect for those traveling on a budget and offers comfortable and affordable rooms. The rooms come in standard single, semi-double, and twin bed rooms. The rooms are small but offer everything you need. All the rooms come with full amenities. The hotel being in central Hakodate, makes it close to many of the attractions and is a good starting out point. For those with cars, there is a small parking area at the hotel. This parking is not free unfortunately, and has an hourly rate (though the maximum rate is ¥800 for 12 hours).
The hotel has a restaurant. The restaurant is called Jingisukan Ram-Waka and is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The breakfast is a western and Japanese style buffet. The ingredients for all their dishes uses local ingredients from Hokkaido. There are many restaurants around the area and a few places to grab a drink. This area has many hotels in it but if you are looking for a basic place to stay, then Unizo Inn Express is a very affordable option. Hakodate Kokusai Hotel is a beautiful hotel on the western harbor of Hakodate. It is on the mid to high end range of hotels in the city. The western rooms have great views over the harbor. This spacious hotel has four restaurants, with nice views plus a sky lounge for drinks, and a buffet breakfast. You have a choice of Japanese or Western cuisine. The hotel, being next to the old Hakodate Pier is close to the popular Red Brick Warehouse shopping area, the Museum Ship Mashu Maru, and Ika Square.
There are three wings that make up the hotel, the main tower, the east wing, and the west wing. The rooms range from double beds to the imperial suite. There is a special set rate which includes breakfast. All the rooms come with shower and bath tub, air conditioner, hairdryer, air cleaner, TV, fridge and of course wifi. For extra items, they are available for rent. There is also the option of smoking and non smoking. The onsen here is in the main tower on the 13th floor. It has sweeping views over the harbor. What a spectacular way to enjoy a hot bath. The hot spring is called Shiomi-no-Yu.

For those looking for a rustic place to stay with some privacy, and away from the main tourist hot spots, the Forest and Tree Village Centre is a nice option. It is not a hotel but a center that has a couple of bungalows to rent. The main building is two stories with two large tatami rooms that can be rented for large groups of up to six. This building also has toilet facilities and showers. Outside of the building, you can find barbecue facilities on the large property here. Here you are free to use these to cook up a great summer barbecue for family or friends.

For a starry experience, adjacent to the main building, you can find the astronomical observation dome. The dome is attached by a walkway to the main center from the second floor. Through the telescope here you can observe the impressive night sky! Apart from the views of the Milky Way, there are fantastic views overlooking the Lake Toya, plus views of Mt. Usu. Adjacent to the main center, and slightly apart from the observation deck are the bungalows. These private bungalows, slightly further down the hill, are suitable for up to groups of four.

Lake Views
Lake Toya is a beautiful area that is a popular tourist destination, especially during the summer, where you can really enjoy the water and the serenity of the lake. Pension Ohno is a large guest house that is open all year, where you can enjoy comfortable surroundings on the southern edge of the lake. The two story pension has seven twin rooms, and three triple rooms to accommodate up to twenty three guests. There is a nice restaurant on the premises that caters for forty people. Breakfast is served from 7:30 to 9:00 (though can be served later on request). Dinner is served from 18:00 to 20:00.

There is also Japanese style banquet hall which can be used for twenty people. During the warm summer months, for some outdoor feasting, there is a large BBQ area to use and enjoy. High-speed wireless LAN can be used free of charge in all guest rooms. After enjoy the sights and activities of the lake and the surrounding area, there is a relaxing onsen (hot spring bath) that can be used to dip and unwind. The best way to get to the pension is by rent a car. From Sapporo its a 2 hour drive over Nakayama pass along route 230. From Chitose Airport its a 1 hour and 40 minute drive via the Hokkaido Expressway. And from the Rusutsu Ski fields its about a 30 minute drive. Alternatively, you can take the Donan Bus from Sapporo station which takes 2 hours and 45 minutes.
