The Toya Kanko Hotel is located in the Toyaka Onsen district which is on the southern shore of Lake Toya and offers beautiful views over the lake. The Toya Kanko Hotel is one of the older hotels in this area and it also serves as a an onsen (hot spring) for guests and the public alike. The hotel has western and Japanese rooms to stay in. They offer ten different plans for guests depending on your style of stay. During the summer season Lake Toya is busiest so early reservations are best.

How to get to the hotel. Using JR train, from Sapporo station, take the Limited Express Hokuto/Super Hokuto (bound for Hakodate) and get off at Toya Station. It will take 1 hour and 50 minutes. From Chitose airport transfer at Minami Chitose Station and take the Limited Express Hokuto/Super Hokuto (bound for Hakodate), and get off at Toya Station. It takes 1 hour and 30 minutes. From JR Toya station take the Donan Bus (to Toyako Onsen). It takes approx. 25 minutes at ¥320, or it’s a 15 minute taxi ride.
The hotel does offer a shuttle service but need to contact them first.
By car, it is a 1 hour 50 minute drive on national route 230 from Sapporo. By bus, from Sapporo station take the Donan Bus (express) to Toyako Onsen via Nakayama Pass. The bus station is in front of Bic Camera at Sapporo station. The travel time is 2 hours and 40 minutes. One way is ¥2700, round trip will cost you ¥4790.

The Rai Yumeto no Ie Onsen (meaning Dreamers House in English) is a small hot spring building located across from Nakatoya Hot Springs Campground. During the summer this onsen is a popular spot for the campers there. On the off season, its quieter and still a great place to freshen up, relax in the onsen waters, or to fill up on bowls of udon noodles at the restaurant there. The building itself has a rustic feel. The wood used to make this onsen comes from two hundred year old Finnish pine imported along the Siberian railroad and shipped across.

The onsen has seven washrooms and is segregated. They also have hairdryers, shampoo, body soap available. Towels are also available to purchase and there is a massage machine that can be used. Everything to clean up and relax. There is a small udon restaurant in the building. Here you can order a variety of hot udon noodle dishes which will satisfy hungry customers. The onsen also has information and pamphlets on what to do around the Toya area, so it acts as a tourist site as well!

Takinoue Hotel Keikoku is a large hotel located just past the town of Takinoue. The hotel is located near all the sightseeing spots. Takinoue is busiest from May to June so it is recommended to reserve a room during these peak times. The rooms are both Western style and Japanese style, and some rooms are non smoking. Wi-fi is available in all rooms. There are various plans, and depending on the price, you can get dinner included with the room. Japanese cuisine and Western cuisine are both available, which come in standard or delicious deluxe meal. Breakfast is a Japanese style buffet.

This small and relaxing onsen is perfect to sooth any aches and pains, or to just freshen up. The onsen is located on the ground floor past the reception. Visitors coming in for the day are more than welcome, which is especially convenient if you are staying at the Keikoku Park Camping Ground which is right by the hotel. The ticket machine for the onsen is next to the reception. Lockers are provided free of charge for valuables. The inside baths offer views over part of the Takinoue Gorge.

The Forest Restaurant is located across from the lobby of the hotel. There are windows overlooking the walking path of Takinoue Gorge making it a nice spot to have some lunch or dinner. This restaurant uses seasonal ingredients in their meals which are both Western and Japanese. They have hamburger patties, vegetables, chicken katsu, curries, and spaghetti. The Japanese menu has tempura, soba noodles, and ramen. This is a good spot to fuel up during the day.

If you are into karaoke, then Takinoue Hotel Keikoku offers this service. There are karaoke rooms to hire for friends and family. They have the latest songs on their karaoke machine. The hotel also has snacks and finger food that can be ordered. Drinks, too, are also available.
Apart from the onsen, restaurant, and the karaoke rooms, there is a souvenir shop which is also located in the lobby. They not only have herbs (which is what Takinoue is famous for), but they also have goods made from local materials, chopping boards and serve ware for example. The souvenir shop ‘Forest Shop’ is open from 7:00 to 21:00. There is plenty to see and do while in Takinoue. There is the Takinoue City Museum, which is directly across from the hotel, as is the Kaori No Sato Herb Garden down the road. The hotel is only a five minute drive from Takinoue Park Shibazakura Festival, which is a must see!

Matsunoya Ryokan is a pleasant onsen located on Toyohira river up in the mountains near Jozankei. This onsen gets its water from the base of Mt. Koranuma and contains rich minerals to sooth the body. For those dropping in for an hour or two, the onsen has a (gender separated) indoor and outdoor bath that overlooks Toyohira river and is a great place to relax. The restaurant here serves up delicious meals using Hokkaido ingredients, including wild vegetables that have a fresh seasonal taste. There is also a souvenir shop, a game corner, and vending machines for snacks and drinks.

For those wishing to stay for a night or longer there are 10 Japanese style rooms. All the rooms are air-conditioned, and dinner and breakfast is included and is served in the guestrooms. With meals, depending on the price, the bigger the course. Robes (Japanese Cotton Kimono) are supplied as well as a toothbrush set, body towel, bath towel, and a refrigerator. Wifi and LAN cables are provided in each room. The capacity for the hotel is 40 people, so reservations are recommended. There is a small cancellation fee.
To drive to the Onsen, there is free parking for up to 70 cars. It will take 45 minutes from central Sapporo, buses are available. There is a lot to see around this area, as it is only a 10 minute drive from Jozankei. Across from Matsunoyu Ryokan Onsen is the Sapporo Ainu Culture Promotion Center. The area is a nice spot to walk around, especially during the autumn.
