There happens to be only one Western Union in the whole of Hokkaido. And that Western Union is in Kutchan. Kutchan is about an hour and forty minute drive from Sapporo. The town is adjacent to Niseko and is part of the hustle and bustle of the ski season and is bustling with travelers and locals during the winter. For this reason it seems the right choice to have a Western Union here. Western Union is an efficient and quick way to send money fast, to practically anywhere in the world!
The Western Union here opens midday until 6pm. It is open everyday which is very nice to know. It is located in the ‘Lucky Supermarket’ near the front entrance. There are also two ATM’s located at the supermarket which is also extremely handy to have at hand. These ATM’s take all cards. The staff here are very friendly and they have English ability. The process to send money takes about ten minutes. You will need a form of ID to send money, so with that simply fill out the form.

If you have ever been travelling and suddenly need some money sent ASAP, then Western Union is a very convenient way to get money fast. There are only 2 Western Unions in the whole of Hokkaido. One in Sapporo, located very conveniently near the station. The other can be found in Kutchan. For tourists, to send or receive money, you will need a passport with a landing permission of less than 90 days. For foreign residents, you will need a valid alien registration card with a landing permission of more than 90 days. Secondary ID includes your passport, Japanese drivers license, health insurance card, pension book or your residential registration certificate. Residents will also need you ‘My Number’ card.

Sending or receiving money is pretty straightforward. Fill out the correct form and take it to the English speaking staff, with the correct ID. To pick up money you will need ID plus the MTCN number. The limit to sending or receiving money is from ¥200 000 to ¥700 000 or equivalent, depending on the country. There is also a limit of two transactions a day. Western Union does have a fee for sending money and exchange rates do apply.
Transfer fees to Bangladesh, Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Korea, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam are as follows:
