Tonkatsu is one of the many Japanese dishes that can be found throughout the country. Tonkatsu is a Japanese dish which started in the 19th century. It is a dish that consists of breaded, deep fried pork cutlet, usually served with rice and a shredded cabbage. Tonkatsu Matsunoya is a chain of restaurants throughout Japan. There are eight stores throughout Sapporo, with two being in central Sapporo. These restaurants are good value, as they are quick, cheap, and delicious! And ordering is easy as well, for tourists as well as Japanese.

To order is on a self serve basis. There are some touch screens which have the menu on them for customers. The menu comes in Japanese, English, Chinese, and Korean. Simply choose your dish, take the ticket and wait for your number to come up. It’s that simple. The dishes are tasty, and the menu has some great sets which come with miso soup and rice. Perfect on a cold day! If you don’t like pork, there is the option of seafood (oyster, flatfish, shrimp) that is deep fried and equally good!
