This bar is one of the many small bars that can be found scattered throughout Susukino, Sapporo. The bar is made up of a small seating area that can be turned into a very small event space, and a bright red counter top for the punters. It is a late night bar and hold live DJ events. Bar Honey Bunny doesn’t have a website so to find out when these events are, you will have to check them on social media. The ‘darts’ part of this bar is made up of one electronic darts board to the side of the bar. The sign out the front, “Our house wine is Jägermeister” sums up this bar perfectly. It’s kind of a random place that sees a lot of characters come through its doors. Jägermeister seems to be the shot of choice if you are thinking of doing shots (especially with the friendly bar owner).

This bar is open until late and a lot of the revelers are locals who usually pop in after they finish work. There is a strong anime theme throughout this bar, especially with the drinks and dolls spread out over the counter. Card isn’t accepted here so make sure to bring cash. Honey Bunny is a hit and miss bar depending on the nights but it’s definitely an interesting spot to check out!

NotesTakoyaki bar, highballs served, outside seating, smoking outside
LocationThere are two takoyaki bars in Sapporo and both can be found in Tanukikoji shopping arcade.

There are two Takoyaki & Highball bars in Sapporo and they can both be found in the Tanukikoji Shopping Arcade. Both these bars are pretty much identical. They can both be identified by their bright red exterior plus they both have outside seating throughout the whole year (including winter). Takoyaki is a fried ball-shaped snack that is filled with chopped octopus (tako), pickled ginger and green onion. The balls are coated with takoyaki sauce (similar to Worcestershire sauce) and mayonnaise. Takoyaki is a delicious snack and the servings hold six takoyaki balls. At Takoyaki & Highball they have many different kinds of toppings they add on to their octopus balls. At these bars they have some unique toppings such as the cod roe with mayonnaise, melted cheese, or fried garlic. These are all equally good!

Each of these tako sets range from around ¥600 to ¥1200 depending on the topping and the complexity. At Takoyaki & Highball they also have other things on the menu besides takoyaki. They have a steak noodle dish, an octopus pizza, and an octopus ahijo dish. So, we have looked at one half of the business. It’s time to delve into the other part of this bar. The name is Takoyaki & Highball and so the drink of choice that accompanies the octopus balls is indeed a highball. A highball being whiskey (the whiskey being Jim Beam in this case) mixed with soda with a lemon slice garnish. It is indeed a refreshing drink and goes well with the food here! They also serve beer and cocktails such as a lemon sour. This is a great place to stop for a drink and people watch.

Es Bar is part of the Es Bar chain. It is a western style bar reminiscent of British pubs. It is the dark wood interior with counter seating and table seating for small groups. This Es Bar caters to the craft beer angle. They have a monthly menu that rotates around different bottled craft beers. You can find lagers, pale ales, stouts, white ales and fruit beers here. They also have regular beers on tap. Like most bars they do have an all you can drink option. There are two options of ¥2600 or ¥3000 for two hours. With a hundred bottled beers to choose from, you can’t go wrong! The friendly staff will also serve up a variety of cocktails if you would prefer something stronger or sweeter.

In terms of food, they have an extensive western menu. The food here is your pretty much run of the mill bar food. This includes hamburg steaks, leann cuts of steak, pasta dishes, pizza dishes, plus they have salads and nachos and dishes of this nature. The presentation is not bad either. This bar with its counter seating is good for couples or for solo drinkers looking to sample some new beers. For those in groups, you can make a reservation on their hotpepper site and enjoy a night out on their plush chairs at one of the many tables in line with the counter. A very unique and cozy bar in central Sapporo. The theme has a jazz blues style going on reminiscent of a small bar down in New Orleans. Crowding the walls and roof are trinkets, statues, and posters from all around. Seating wise, there are a couple of counter seats and a couple more small tables. This bar is best to drink in very small of groups of up to 4.  The bar is singularly run by the owner. He speaks very little English however. The menu has mainly beer and cocktails on the menu. Drinks go for about ¥600 per drink, as well as the cocktails. There is a sit down charge of at least ¥500 per person so be warned as many customers are surprised when the bill comes. This is a cozy bar and has a great little atmosphere plus you can find some classic bottled beers here such as Budweiser, Corona, Kirin, and Guiness to name a few.

This is primarily a bar though they do have some food here, albeit basic bar food. The name does say cafe and they do have coffee here and some cakes to enjoy. Overall, a good little bar to check out while in Sapporo.
