Cocono Susukino was built on the remnants of the old Lafilier building with construction being completed in December 2023. This department store sits on the main crossroads that pass through Susukino. Cocono faces the famous ‘Nikka Sign’ and the MacDonalds across the road. It is an impressive building and was designed as new “playground where people can enjoy themselves through a wide variety of experiences, from exciting to restful”. So, what can be found here? There is a supermarket with direct access to Susukino subway station. On the next several floors there are shops, restaurants, bars, a casino area, plus a movie theatre and a hotel. Cocono is a step up from older designs and the space is used well, with an outside viewing area, plus it has seating areas throughout and stylish concept bars and restaurants.

This restaurant is located under the large Ferris wheel in central Sapporo in the building Norubesa. It is on the ground and has a nice ambient atmosphere on the inside plus a nice seating area on the outside in the non winter months. This place is especially good for large parties as there are some large tables near the windows. It is also a popular spot for dates and romantic dinners as each table is candle lit. There is smoking on the main floor which may make non smokers uncomfortable. The food here is beautifully presented and there are some unique dishes that you don’t usually find elsewhere. For example they have lamb cutlets, roast beef and seasonal salads. They also offer set meals ranging from ¥4000 – ¥6000.

The taste of the dishes, although good, is outdone by the presentation and doesn’t really compete. The servings are not big and you are looking at around ¥1000 a dish. The cocktail menu here is extensive and well presented. There is also a good wine selection and again, the wine servings are a little small. As mentioned, there are dinner and party plans that can be ordered if you don’t want to pay per dish. It’s best to reserve a table a few days prior so as to secure a spot. There is also an all you can drink option.

This is a popular ‘jingisukan’ restaurant in central Susukino, Sapporo. Jingisukan is mutton that is cooked on an open grill by the customers. You can find an assortment of meats, plus vegetables to cook as desired. What makes this place unique is included in the name of the restaurant, and that is the lemon sour drinks that are served. The lemon sour cocktails can be ordered through a ‘nomihodai’ (all you can drink) option. Nearly everyone goes for this option as it is unbelievably cheap at ¥600 per person for 90 minutes! Each table is set up with its own keg on tap that can be poured by the revelers.

There are different kinds of ‘all you can drink’ options. These include the cheapest lemon sour, or a strawberry sour option, plus other fruits to mix. Ordering food is not super simple as it should be. To order food you need to use the QR code that is given to you to access the menu. From there you can order from the link. This is a little laborious. After ordering the waitperson will bring out your food where you can cook it on the grill that they set up for you. This is a great place to because they have outside seating which isn’t often found in Susukino. There is also inside seating. If you do want to sit outside you will need to make a reservation well in advance so fingers crossed for good weather!

King Xhmu is one of the biggest clubs in Sapporo and Hokkaido, if not the biggest. The club has a striking edifice, that of stone serpents and a giant Aztecan face bearing down over the street. The inside is equally impressive with a three story high interior decked out with cool designs such as silver gilded snakes, skulls, and a giant bird of prey spreading its wings over the bar. The club has a main dance floor area with a stage, two bars, a smaller dance floor on the second floor plus a women’s sitting area. The club is mostly popular after 23:00 where it gets busy.

For those entering the club, after showing ID, party goers will realize that men have to pay more than their female counterparts. Women are usually free. For those unfamiliar with the club, the cost is around ¥3500 for men. The club, although of its large size, has a relatively small dance area and standing area. A lot of the club is made up of (and usually empty) VIP lounge areas that a cordoned off from the main area. These VIP areas are the only places to sit in the club unfortunately, so unless you want to spend up to an extra ¥20,000 you have to stand. Cocktails, beers, and champagne are sold at the bar. Cocktails are served in small plastic cups and the small plastic shot glasses are rarely filled to the top. It’s better to order bottled beer to get your moneys worth. Drinks are around ¥500. Amalfi is a really great place to check out while experiencing the nightlife of Sapporo. During the summer months, this nicely designed bar and restaurant has an opening out onto the street, making it a comfortable space to wine and dine. Amalfi serves as a bar and as a dining space. The food here is equally well presented. They have some really fantastic small dishes to nibble on and which compliments the drink. For oyster lovers, they have delicious fresh oysters on ice, plus dried tomatoes drizzled in olive oil, olives, and cheeses to name a few. If you are more peckish, Amalfi specializes in Italian cuisine. They have pastas and pizzas on the menu. There is counter seating for couples or for those on their own, plus there are booths for up to four people on one side of the bar, and out the back, there is more space for those wishing for a bigger party. Amalfi is definitely worth a visit if you are out of town. You won’t be disappointed.

This bar has been around for a long time and has been a popular spot over the many years. The bars name is based on the Blade Runner movie (based on the book ‘Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?’) The big draw card for this spot is the great views down over Sapporo. The bar is located on the 9th floor with large windows overlooking the night scene, all the way down route 36 (a main street separating Susukino and Odori). The night views plus the beautifully presented cocktails make this bar a popular date spot. A lot of the patronage here are on the younger side (mostly in the early twenties). They have party plans and an ‘all you can drink’ option as well.
There is window seating, counter seating and table seating (for up to about four people so not great for big groups). There are so many fantastic cocktails on the menu you can try something new. They have some interesting variations on your favorite drinks such as the mango mojito, kiwi martini, or running with the Blade Runner theme, they have a ‘Blade Runner’ and a ‘Replicant’ drink. The staff are friendly and keep the bar running along. The food here is also good! They have some Spanish style dishes such prosciutto, shrimp ajillo, or fires with chili beans. Electric Sheep Bar is a great bar to check out in Sapporo.
