This department store sits on the main crossroads that pass through Susukino. Cocono faces the famous ‘Nikka Sign’ and the MacDonalds across the road. It is an impressive building and was designed as new “playground where people can enjoy  themselves through a wide variety of experiences, from exciting to restful”. So, what can be found here? There is a supermarket with direct access to Susukino subway station. On the next several floors there are shops, restaurants, bars, a casino area, plus a movie theatre and a hotel. For those who enjoy their sake, Fuu is a top spot to visit. Fuu is a Japanese izakaya located in Susukino on the basement floor. It is a large restaurant and bar with counter seating, small private booths, and large rooms for special occasions. It’s one of the few places that has an ‘all you can drink’ that has Nishon-shu (sake) on the menu. For around ¥2500 you can taste a large selection of different sakes from all over Japan! A real bargain. And if you don’t like sake, then they do have bottles of Sapporo classic included. The sake menu is written only in Japanese unfortunately so you will need someone who can read Japanese or have an app that can explain the different types of ske you can pick from.

[the_ad id=”4264″]

While sampling your sake, you can enjoy some good Japanese cuisine for the full experience. Whats better than sipping on some sake with some nice seafood. At Fuu, they have an abundance of dishes to choose from. They have sushi, sashimi, fish, salads plus a selection of side dishes. At Fuu, the staff are very helpful and can assist you in your choice of sake. The decor is simple and wooden, and darkly lit giving off a nice atmosphere. Fuu is a great place to check out especially if you want to try a variety of different sakes.

Mau is a fantastic seafood style izakaya located in Sapporo. This restaurant serves up some great seafood dishes plus some unique ones that are specialties at Mau. A lot of the seafood here is freshly handpicked from the seafood market in Sapporo. Along with the food here, they have a lot of Japanese alcohol and beer to enjoy. It is recommended that customers try one of the party plans. These plans allow you to sample up to seven or eight dishes while enjoying an all you can drink plan for 2 hours.

The Erimo Misaki Tourist Center serves as a souvenir store, information center, and as a seafood restaurant. It can be found at Cape Erimo on the point. There is a large carpark here as well, and the Tourist Center is definitely a welcome place during cold, wet and windy weather. Close by, you can also find the entrance to the Kaze no Yakata (house of wind), wind museum. The tourist center has numerous souvenirs inside. These include mainly animal products from the local wildlife such as antlers from the Hokkaido deer.

The restaurant is large and one of the best spots to try some local seafood while in Erimo. There are not a lot of restaurants in Erimo, so this is a good spot for some lunch while on the road. Being on the coast, there is plenty of seafood to choose from. They have a great sea urchin bowl that comes with rice, pickles and a miso soup. It is costly at ¥3600 a bowl, but if you have the money, it’s worth a try. Other dishes include sashimi, sushi, and shellfish. You can also find some large tanks with equally large snow crabs for sale. These things are huge and aren’t cheap! Overall, Erimo Misaki Tourist Center is a good place, although a little old, to stop off at take a look at its wares, or have a taste of its local cuisine!

Sai Kaku is a small chain of restaurants in Sapporo and throughout the big cities of Japan. They are not like the sushi train restaurants with the sushi on a conveyer belt, but you order your sushi directly from the chef. Sai Kaku are on the higher end of sushi restaurants and for those traveling from abroad, they offer a fantastic Japanese dining experience. There are five Sai Kaku restaurants in Sapporo, all close to each other. There are two in Susukino, two in the heart of Sapporo and a fifth near Sapporo station.

These restaurants excel in sushi and in sake. The sushi is beautifully presented and arranged on a flat wooden board. Unlike other sushi restaurants, only one piece of sushi is served per order. It comes with a folded ginger garnish. This restaurant is more expensive then the sushi train style restaurants so be prepared. It is highly recommended to try some fine sake to go with your sushi. They have numerous bottles to choose from. Again, if you are looking for a fine dining experience, and enjoy sushi, look no further than Sai Kaku.
