The Kushiro Shitsugen National park (better known as the Kushiro Marshland) is a national park, located to the north of Kushiro on the eastern side of Hokkaido. The park is known for its wetlands ecosystems. 'Shitsugen' translates to wetlands in English. It was designated as a national park on 31 July 1987. Karayama is a large chain of restaurants throughout Japan. There are two locations in Hokkaido and they happen to be in Sapporo and in the adjoining city of Ebetsu. Karayama specializes in ‘karaage’. Karaage is essentially bite-size pieces of chicken thigh dusted with flour and deep-fried in hot oil. This popular dish is eaten in many Japanese households. Karayama has numerous karaage recipes and have a good lunch and dinner set menus. For example there is a karaage curry dish, or a fried chicken with egg on rice.
