Biei Shizennomura Camping Ground which translates to “Biei Nature Village Camping Ground” is a large camping ground which literally has ‘cabins in the woods’. If you are looking for a peace and quiet with some privacy, this place could be the spot for you! The camp ground has ten red wooden cabins, called ‘Kevin Cabins’. These cabins have two floors and have sleeping beds and bunks for up to five people.  These cabins are near large covered BBQ areas that have seating and plenty of room to cook up a feast. These cabins are perfect for groups, families or for couples.

The front office is run by friendly staff who are happy to help you with any needs you have. When staying at the Biei Shizennomura Camping Ground, you will receive discount tickets for a local onsen up the road. It is located only two minutes away from the Saika no Sato Lavender Farm, and the Nakafurano Flower Park, which are both great places to see some flowers and get some photos.

Small grass area

If you are out and about taking in the sights of Takinoue, and camping is an option, then Keikoku Park Camping Ground is a good choice to pitch your tent! This camping ground is not your common camping ground, and can be easily missed at first glance. It is a small grass area located in front of a park golf course, and next to an open hut area for barbecuing. The best thing about this camp ground is that it’s free, which is becoming rarer to find in Hokkaido. It may be small, but it has everything you need!

Park Golf Building & restrooms

Keikoku Park has a large park golf course on the grounds, and it is at the large park golf building, that you can check in to the camping ground. The park golf building reception closes at 17:00, but the building remains open all night and this where you will find the restrooms (though no showers). There is a large parking lot in front the park golf building so parking is not a problem, AND, if you are planning on staying a few nights there is an onsen down the road to clean up and refresh. The onsen can be found at the Takinoue Valley Hotel and costs ¥440 per adult and ¥160 per child.

Cooking and BBQ area

The camp ground is located near all the good sightseeing spots. While in Takinoue, be sure to see the Takinoue Shibazakura Festival. It is the main attraction during May. The campground is also across from Kaori no Sato Herb Garden, which is a fantastic place to visit. If you head over and across the park golf course, and over a walkway bridge, it will lead down to a fantastic walking track which runs the length of Takinoue Gorge , which leads into the town. There is also the Takinoue City Museum which is a five minute walk away, and for the kids, there is a huge play gym in front of the camping ground!

Stunning sunsets

Hoshinitenotodokuoka Camping Ground is located high in the hills, outside of the center of Furano. It is peaceful and quiet, and is famous for its beautiful sunsets, and more so for its spectacular 360 degree views of the starry skies! Those who enjoy photography, bring a tripod! There is no electricity on site, though large crates of firewood are for sale at ¥500. Rules require no fireworks, large parties or loud music after 21:00. In the morning you may be greeted by some woolly guests. The campsite has some sheep on site and come to graze in the morning (popular with the campers).

Near the camp ground

On the grounds of the campsite there is a rabbit hut, which is also popular with the kids. For ¥100, you can buy some food and feed them all (there are about 30 of the little animals). Apart from the rabbit hutch, there is jingisukan (mutton) restaurant that is open for lunch and an early dinner. So, what else is there to do around the Furano area? During the summer months, Furano is alive with flowers. Near the campsite there is also a river, which is only a 10 minute drive away. This river has rainbow trout and salmon so it’s a great fishing spot! It’s also great for swimming. And lastly, there is the “Fukiage Hot Spring Outdoor Bath”, which is about a 30 minutes drive from the campground. A popular natural mixed onsen, where you can wear swimwear if need be.
