One of the many paths

Opened in 1975, Makomanai Park is a city park that is located in the southern ward of Sapporo city. The park is also home to Makamonai Open Stadium, the Makamonai Ice Arena, and the Sapporo Salmon Museum. Makamonai Park was also the main site of the 1972 Winter Olympic Games. Before that, the site was originally used for the Hokkaido dairy! There is also a hiking trail at the back of the park. This relatively easy hike leads to Monami Park, which is a nice smaller park, that also runs along Toyohira river.

With over 10km of paths, it is the perfect spot to get some exercise, all the while taking in the natural surroundings whether it be in winter, autumn, or the warmer seasons. Tennis courts in summer

The Makomanai Sekisui Heim Stadium was opened in 1971 and was the stadium used for the opening ceremony for the 11th Winter Olympic Games that were held in Sapporo in 1972! During the games it was used in tandem with the Makomanai Indoor Stadium which is also located in Makamonai park. The stadium can accommodate up to 17,300 people. Since this piece of history, the stadium is open to the general public for sports and events that are held throughout the year.

A room to enjoy a coffee and rest

During the summer, the stadium has eight tennis courts and four futsal courts that can be rented. The stadium can be hired out, for a price, so it is not rare to see occasional events that are held for kids, or for concerts, or exhibitions that are organized here. During the winter, there is an outdoor skating rink that is open. This a lot of fun for couples, friends or families, where you can strap on some skates and do laps around in the stadium. There is also a training room, sports classes, folk dance, tai chi, infant physical education classes, and a parent-child sports club, showers, and changing rooms. There is a lot to do here!
