Located in Odori, Sapporo, the North Continent restaurant is renowned for having some of the best hamburg steaks in Hokkaido. Although it’s on one of the main streets in Sapporo, it can be easily missed! Keep an eye out for the sign (see picture). There is seating for about 40 people, though it is wise to make a reservation for small groups as it does get busy. If you can get counter seating, the views of the chef as he cooks the hamburgers a la flambé, is a great spot for a photo and adds to the experience of the restaurant!

Blue cheese & walnut sauce
North Continent has four different kinds of meat patties. Minced lamb, a mixed nuts patty, meat and egg, and the basic meat patty. The last two are the only ones available during the lunch menu. The toppings that go with the hamburg steaks are delicious, whether it be the blue cheese & walnut sauce, the prune demi-glace sauce, or the four cheeses dip. All steaks come with daikon (Japanese radish), crispy roast potatoes, a green salad, and a bowl of rice. All ingredients are from various areas around Hokkaido. While in Sapporo, Odori, Hamburg Steak North Continent is a nice little restaurant to check out.

Duck & soba noodle soup
Gomasoba Yakumo is a popular chain of soba noodle restaurants in Hokkaido. There are 6 locations in downtown Sapporo, with 3 more stores located in Shin-Sapporo, New Chitose Airport, and Kita-Hiroshima. The menus in each of these stores is pretty much the same. They have a large selection of dishes with soba noodles (thin buckwheat noodles). Soba noodles are served either chilled with a dipping sauce, or in hot broth as a noodle soup. Whether you like them hot or cold, there are over 40 different soba dishes to choose from!

Plenty of variety
When you order your soba dishes, you will be asked if you want them hot or cold. With cold soba noodles you will be given a dipping sauce. To this dipping sauce, add spring onions and as much wasabi sauce as you like, and then dip your noodles, delicious! They even have “souvenir soba” (various takeaways of cold soba). Bic Camera is a famous electronics store that it is part of a chain of stores that have multiple locations all over Japan. There is one in Hokkaido which is located right next to Sapporo station and JR Tower. Not only does Bic Camera sell electronics and cameras, but it also sells home appliances, toys, and other outdoor and indoor goods. This store is extremely popular for tourists and is often busy, due to this store being tax free. Bic camera will also deliver bought items to hotels and the airport if needed! The store caters especially to overseas travelers. Some of the many staff are multilingual and the announcements are made in various languages.

Yotsuba White Cosy is a sweets & parfait restaurant located in Paseo, Sapporo station. It is a very popular place especially during lunch hours. There are 15 kinds of unique parfait, mixed with fresh fruits, delicious toppings, or nuts and almonds. Yotsuba is also famous for its fantastic pancakes. Make your choice from a dozen pancakes, whether it be caramel & almonds, 4 berries pancakes, or the cinnamon apple and rum raisin pancake with maple syrup, delicious!

Pasta dishes
If you are looking for more of a savory meal, and not so much a sweet indulgence, then Yotsuba also has some pasta dishes. There are some spaghetti plates, a hamburger ‘doria’ plate, and a ‘gratin’ plate. Doria is a rice and butter based dish which typically has chicken or prawns, and some vegetables mixed in, with a creamy white sauce. There are also some pancake and cheese dishes , plus a kids set. For lunch sets there are some rice and chicken and curry sets. While shopping around near Sapporo station, Yotsuba White Cosy is a close by!

Set meal
Tokyo Sundubu is a popular chain of succesful Korean restaurants. There are 2 in Hokkaido. The first being in Paseo, located at Sapporo station. The second is located in the Parco department store in Odori. ‘Sundubu-jjigae’ or ‘soft tofu stew’ is a famous Korean dish that has been enjoyed for generations. It is a stew featuring soft tofu, cooked with a variety of ingredients including meat, seafood, and vegetables. The hot stew is seasoned off with ‘tategi’ (a Korean red pepper based sauce). There are over 20 dishes to choose from!

To order your dish is very simple. First, choose what kind ingredients you want (seafood, vegetables, meat etc). Second, select 1 out of the 3 soup bases. There is plain, salt, or the most popular, miso. Third, choose how spicy you want it, from level 1 to level 6. And lastly, choose the size of your rice, from small to large that comes with the rice set menu. There is the rice set, the salad and rice set, or the salad, rice & drink set. Extra toppings for your stew are available and each set comes with a small dessert. The stew will come out boiling hot, so be careful and enjoy your taste of Korea!

The Mexican Mule Restaurant and Cantina, conveniently located at the Higashiyama Pension Village bus stop Niseko village, is serving up the best Mexican food in Niseko.
