Using seasonal Hokkaido ingredients, Jinbei is a delicious seafood restaurant that can be found in Paseo West dining. Here you can enjoy delicious seafood cuisine in Japanese style. You can dine on a large selection of succulent sashimi, or why not try the tasty ikura (salmon roe), or if you have never tried uni (sea urchin), then here is your chance! Jinbei also has salads, grilled fish, grilled crab, and if you don’t prefer seafood, then there are some meat dishes of ham, fried chicken, and cooked mutton. Ginza Lion is a well known national chain of restaurants, who also a have a couple of restaurants overseas. Ginza Lion is a western style restaurant with a German / beer hall theme. There are four restaurants in the downtown Sapporo city area. In other locations around Hokkaido, one is located at Sapporo Dome , one is at Chitose airport, and one more is by Asahiyama zoo. During the summer, Ginza Lion has a beer garden outside of Sapporo station which is a popular spot to have beer!

Located as part of the Paseo West dining section, Tortilla Flat is a delicious Spanish restaurant. In nice surroundings, you can dine on a selection of Spanish cuisine. On the menu you can find dishes of paella, escabeche, chicken and beef dishes! The side dishes have a Spanish flavor and there are plenty to choose from. Customers can enjoy five different styles of prosciutto. The set menu, which is a popular lunch choice, includes a drink and a side dish.

Tortilla Flat also has a selection of 5 cheeses carefully selected from white mold, blue mold, wash, hard, and smoke, according to selected wines of each country. There is a bar area, with local beers served, a variety of wines, plus soft drinks. Maccali’s Market is a local supermarket which excels in organic products. It aims to incorporate organic life into part of the customer’s lifestyle with the concept of “casual organic” as its concept. Based in Hokkaido, they operate as retail market, a wholesale business, and an online shop. Maccali’s Market focuses on organic products which includes vegetables, textiles, and cosmetics! The market is only a 4 minute walk from the Ropeway Iriguchi tram station and being right near Mt. Moiwa and the lookout, it’s not a bad market to drop in and take a look, on the way home!

Fantastic staff

If you like tempura or soup curry why not have both? Okushibachan Soup Curry is a fantastic and unique restaurant that is hidden away in the western part of Sapporo. Incorporated in the shop name is ‘Obaachan’ which in Japanese, means grandmother. All the staff, except for the manager, are ladies aged over sixty. With the friendly elderly staff, plus the shop being located in an actual house, gives this restaurant are very homely and warm atmosphere, which you won’t find anywhere else. This restaurant is located in the vicinity of the Okurayama ski jump, making it a good spot for lunch on a day out.

Tempura set at the counter!

Another aspect of this restaurant, which makes this soup curry unique, is the tempura that is part of the delicious menu! The pictured menu is in Japanese only, and has about a dozen dishes to choose from. Choose your order, choose your soup flavor, and then choose the spice level. Extra topping can be ordered before finally selecting a rice side dish. There is a tempura side dish or a tempura chicken curry which is recommended. There is seating on a beautifully cut wooden counter, plus two rooms on the second floor which can be reserved for large groups. The soup curry is fantastic, making Okushibachan a must, while in Sapporo!

Winter Olympic medals

The Sapporo Olympic Museum can be found near the foot of the Okurayama Ski Jump. With a joint ticket to both of these venues makes for a great day out, with friends or with the family! The construction of the museum was completed in December 1999, and opened to the public on April 22, 2000. The museum is three stories and contains a number of photographs, memorabilia from previous Olympics, media content, and interactive exhibits which are a lot of fun!

Ski jumping simulation!

The museum has a lot of memorabilia dating a\back a hundred years, though the signage is all in Japanese. There are some great interactive exhibits. Try the simulated ski jump and see if you can beat the record! The staff who operates the simulation speaks English will explain the method of jumping. Other simulations include the cross country skiing, the bob sled, speed skating, and the ice-hockey, where you can compete aginst each other or try and beat the clock. All are a lot of fun, not only for the kids, but for adults alike!
