Cold half pint of Carlsberg
St. John’s Wood is a British style pub located in a prime location right near Susukino station. As with all good British style pubs, St. John’s Wood has a good selection of whiskeys, malts, wine and beer. They have Suntory Premium, Carlsberg, and a local black stout on tap, which are served in half pints or pints. There is also a selection of 10 bottled beers from around the globe on the menu. There are cocktails, and non-alcoholic drinks as well, with happy hour from 18:00 to 19:00 for a cheaper beverage! Pay at the counter.

Counter seating
With window seating looking onto the main street, St John’s Wood is a good bar to sit and watch the traffic walk by, especially in the summer with outside seating. There is also counter seating with 2 large screens for sports plus there are tables for large groups up to 15 people. The food menu also serves up good British fare, fish & chips, shepherd’s pie, and St. John’s very own haggis served with potatoes! Side orders include everything from olives, onion rings to cheeses, nuts and pickles. Pizza and pastas are also served at St. John’s Wood. Caramel coffee
Sold as a “girls relaxing space” Arucamo Cafe is an elegant and fancy space, which sells not only coffee, but has cakes, and in its large dining area, jewelry and adornments are for sale. This coffee shop has a lot of space and there are large tables for big groups. Arucamo Cafe has a good selection of coffees & aromatic teas. They also have large 24cm cakes with which to choose from. The cakes are made with seasonal fruits and go well with any tea or coffee (especially on a cold winters day).

Jewelry for sale
On the healthier side of things, Arucamo Cafe have vegetarian dishes on the menu as well as pastas and delicious sandwiches. While you are waiting for your order, feel free to wander around and take a look at the jewelry for sale. If anything picks your fancy, then inform the friendly staff. Arucamo Cafe is located on the 2nd floor of the Ikeuchi Department store. It has large windows with pleasant views overlooking the street . It’s also a good location to enjoy a coffee and get views of the Yosakoi Soran Festival if you are in the area at that time.

Omelette with bacon & potato
Chapeau Rouge (red hat) is a rice & omelette restaurant. Omelette & rice dishes, better known as ‘Om Rice’ is a popular dish in Japan. There are many kinds of ‘Om Rice’ restaurants throughout Hokkaido. Chapeau Rouge is a typical om rice restaurant which serves up omelettes & rice, with a garnish of some kind. It is a quick and easy spot to grab some lunch or dinner. The menu has many kinds of omelettes, including the herb chicken (pictured above), curry, hamburger patty, and the bacon & tomato omelette and rice.

The dishes are very basic, as they are affordable, making Chapeau Rouge a quick and convenient spot to recharge the batteries whilst in the shopping district at Sapporo station.

Delicious fried chicken set
Provence is a restaurant located next to Sapporo station in Paseo, which is 2 floors of various restaurants and coffee shops. Provence is based on French / Italian cuisine using olive oil from the south of France. Provence is part of company that owns a chain of restaurants throughout Japan. There are 7 other restaurants in Japan, with 1 being in Hokkaido, Sapporo. As there is plenty of seating, there are rarely long lines to get in for lunch or dinner which is a bonus.

The menu at Thai’s has a selection of soups, meats, and noodles that all come with a side dish of rice. There is a lunch set menu as well as a dinner set menu. Spice levels are all indicated on the menu with the number of chili peppers marked underneath each dish. Of course, if you prefer a lower level of spice then you can ask the friendly staff. Thai beers are also available to go with your meal. Thai desserts include deep fried banana with ice cream which is a must! From 17:00, Thai’s becomes a smoking establishment. Counter seating
Cafe & Dining Shelf is a western style restaurant that can be found in the Sapporo Parco department store on the 8th floor. The dining floor in Parco has 8 restaurants and the ‘Shelf’ restaurant can be found directly in the centre. It’s a large open restaurant surrounded by (as the name may suggest) shelves full of books and artifacts. There is a bar area, and tables set up for up to groups of 4. The menu has a set lunch & dinner menu that comes with a salad and drink. The plate (main) menu has options of chicken or beef paddy sets, that comes with vegetables, and a small salad. Good value for your money.

Cafe & Dining Shelf also has a curry set, and a salad menu. The kinds of salads include a teriyaki chicken salad, a 10 vegetable salad, and a delicious avocado & shrimp salad. The à la carte menu has french fries, spicy fried chicken, camembert cheese & potato fritters, smoked salmon, and pickles! If you still have room then the dessert menu won’t disappoint! Creamy cheese cake & blueberry cake, classic gâteau au chocolat, and rich crema catalana in a caramel sauce are deliciously pictured for your choosing.
