Chapeau Rouge (red hat) is a rice & omelette restaurant. Omelette & rice dishes, better known as ‘Om Rice’ is a popular dish in Japan. There are many kinds of ‘Om Rice’ restaurants throughout Hokkaido. Chapeau Rouge is a typical om rice restaurant which serves up omelettes & rice, with a garnish of some kind. It is a quick and easy spot to grab some lunch or dinner. The menu has many kinds of omelettes, including the herb chicken (pictured above), curry, hamburger patty, and the bacon & tomato omelette and rice.

Chapeau Rouge, has a set menu as well which includes a small green salad, and a cup of onion soup. There are also a couple of spaghetti dishes thrown into the mix as well. The dishes are very basic, as they are affordable, making Chapeau Rouge a quick and convenient spot to recharge the batteries whilst in the shopping district at Sapporo station.

Provence is a restaurant located next to Sapporo station in Paseo, which is 2 floors of various restaurants and coffee shops. Provence is based on French / Italian cuisine using olive oil from the south of France. Provence is part of company that owns a chain of restaurants throughout Japan. There are 7 other restaurants in Japan, with 1 being in Hokkaido, Sapporo. As there is plenty of seating, there are rarely long lines to get in for lunch or dinner which is a bonus.

Originally based in Tokyo, Thai’s Restaurant can now be found in Sapporo. This Thai restaurant is located in a convenient location in Paseo, which is just a 2 minute walk from Sapporo station. Thai’s restaurant is themed around delicious spices & vegetables in their Thai dishes. Eggplant, bamboo shoots, shimeji, yellow & red paprika, sweet basil, lemon grass, shiitake mushrooms and sesame seeds, can all be found in these tasty dishes. There are 10 kinds of vegetables used in the curries at Thai’s. The dishes offer a harmony of flavors of sweet, spicy, and sour.

The menu at Thai’s has a selection of soups, meats, and noodles that all come with a side dish of rice. There is a lunch set menu as well as a dinner set menu. Spice levels are all indicated on the menu with the number of chili peppers marked underneath each dish. Of course, if you prefer a lower level of spice then you can ask the friendly staff. Cafe & Dining Shelf is a western style restaurant that can be found in the Sapporo Parco department store on the 8th floor. The dining floor in Parco has 8 restaurants and the ‘Shelf’ restaurant can be found directly in the centre. It’s a large open restaurant surrounded by (as the name may suggest) shelves full of books and artifacts. There is a bar area, and tables set up for up to groups of 4. The menu has a set lunch & dinner menu that comes with a salad and drink. The plate (main) menu has options of chicken or beef paddy sets, that comes with vegetables, and a small salad. Good value for your money.

Cafe & Dining Shelf also has a curry set, and a salad menu. The kinds of salads include a teriyaki chicken salad, a 10 vegetable salad, and a delicious avocado & shrimp salad. The à la carte menu has french fries, spicy fried chicken, camembert cheese & potato fritters, smoked salmon, and pickles! If you still have room then the dessert menu won’t disappoint! Creamy cheese cake & blueberry cake, classic gâteau au chocolat, and rich crema catalana in a caramel sauce are deliciously pictured for your choosing. For those of you who have a sweet tooth, then ‘Shall We Sweets’ may be the place for you. Opened in 2009, Shall We Sweets is a buffet style restaurant / coffee shop / cake store located on the 8th floor of the Parco restaurant section. The name is inspired from the feel good Japanese cult movie “Shall we Dance?”. The sweets are made by pastry chefs, and are served buffet style so you can indulge into the sweeter things in life. This restaurant is a nice spot for tea, or coffee which has some seats with window views.

Freshness Burger is a nation wide chain of burger restaurants that were first opened in 1992. There are 3 stores in the Sapporo area, and there is 1 in Chitose. The stores in Hokkaido use local ingredients, and the hamburger patties are an original recipe. Take your selection from the Japanese or English menu of burgers, such as the classic cheese burger, avocado burger, egg & bacon burger, chicken burger, or the bacon & omelette burger!
