The Kushiro Shitsugen National park (better known as the Kushiro Marshland) is a national park, located to the north of Kushiro on the eastern side of Hokkaido. The park is known for its wetlands ecosystems. 'Shitsugen' translates to wetlands in English. It was designated as a national park on 31 July 1987. Perched at the top of a large hill, overlooking Kushiro Marsh, you can find the Kushiro Marsh Observatory. This is one of the most interesting buildings in Hokkaido. Chapeau Rouge (red hat) is a rice & omelette restaurant. Omelette & rice dishes, better known as ‘Om Rice’ is a popular dish in Japan. There are many kinds of ‘Om Rice’ restaurants throughout Hokkaido. Chapeau Rouge is a typical om rice restaurant which serves up omelettes & rice, with a garnish of some kind. It is a quick and easy spot to grab some lunch or dinner. The menu has many kinds of omelettes, including the herb chicken (pictured above), curry, hamburger patty, and the bacon & tomato omelette and rice.

Chapeau Rouge, has a set menu as well which includes a small green salad, and a cup of onion soup. There are also a couple of spaghetti dishes thrown into the mix as well. The dishes are very basic, as they are affordable, making Chapeau Rouge a quick and convenient spot to recharge the batteries whilst in the shopping district at Sapporo station.
