Toriton Sushi is a successful chain of restaurants that can be found throughout Hokkaido, primarily in Sapporo. There are four sushi restaurants and two sushi conveyor belt restaurants, also known as kaiten-zushi restaurants, in the Sapporo area. Hokkaido is famous for its seafood and the sushi here is no exception! When looking for a sushi restaurant, Toriton is a great choice. As with all kaiten-zushi restaurants, you pay by the plate, with two pieces of sushi per plate. For sushi restaurants you can order more by pieces. The plate prices range from ￥120 to ￥650 per plate, so you can play it cheap or indulge a little for those high end sushi pieces. They also have noodles and some fried chicken which is a nice option as well. The hot green tea is free, and goes well with your Japanese cuisine experience. If you are looking for something a little stronger, they have beer as well as sake.

Fugetsu is part of a huge chain of Okonomiyaki stores that are found throughout Hokkaido. For more details on the various locations in Sapporo, you can find them here at Fugetsu Okonomiyaki is a Japanese dish of a savory batter mixed with your choice of ingredients. These usually include eggs and shredded cabbage, green onion, meat (generally thin pork belly, often mistaken for bacon), octopus, squid, shrimp, vegetables, konjac, mochi or cheese.

As with other okonomiyaki restaurants, you can cook it yourself on the hotplates that are in the restaurant. Simply order your ingredients, and then mix them in the bowl. After making a thick paste, pour it onto the hotplate and cook both sides, like a pancake. Simply top it of with fish flakes, mayonnaise, and shaved green dried seaweed. Beer and soft drinks are available to go with. Located in Asabu, (the last stop on the Nanboku line) its an easy restaurant to find for a nice lunch or late dinner. Enjoy!

Oyster Ajillo
Azumasi is a delicious little beer and oyster bar where you can sit and enjoy some great food and drink with friends or even alone! It can be found in Susukino, the night life district of Sapporo. The bar/restaurant has counter seating plus a two tables for up to six people each. Azumasi has a lot of small dishes, but its primary limelight is on its fresh oysters. The oysters are fresh from Akkeshi, in Hokkaido. You can enjoy these oysters raw, baked, pickled, steamed in a white wine, fried, or dipped in a hot broth ‘shabu shabu’ style!

Other dishes, besides the selection of oyster dishes include grilled scallops, yakisoba (fried noodles) in a special home made sauce, and a succulent omelette. The drink menu offers beer, spirits, soft drinks, plus a selection of sakes, and Italian and South African wines. There are set and party plans on offer at Azumasi, ranging from around ¥2000 to ¥5000. These plans include an ‘all you can drink’ for 2 hours, with five or six dishes. This is a great option for couples and small parties. If you enjoy oysters, then Azumasi is a great option!

Kani Honke is a successful chain of crab restaurants that are located throughout Japan. In Hokkaido, you can find two of these restaurants in Sapporo city. One being two blocks from Sapporo station. The other being on the main street running through Susukino (the entertainment district). Both these crab restaurants cater for tourists as well locals. They have Chinese speaking staff as well as menus in various languages. The restaurants have multiple levels, so there is plenty of room for large groups! Boiled snow crab!
There are various crab dishes on offer, of different sizes. All contain succulent crab meat that will wow any guest. You can order individual dishes or go for the large group dishes. They have mouth watering snow crab or king crab on the menu. Some of the recommended dishes include boiled snow crab with vinegar, steam crab dumplings, or the butter roasted king crab to name a few. There is also ‘Kanishabu’ or ‘Kanisuki’ which is crab cooked in a broth in or without its shell. With the fried crab, the waitress will cook it for you on a grill which is a nice touch. And of course, to go with your selection of crab dishes, there is a selcetion of beer, wine, or Japanese sake!

Soup Curry Algo is a small soup curry restaurant located in Sususukino, Sapporo. Due to its small size, its recommended for groups of up to four at the most. Run by the friendly owner, you can enjoy a good selection of soup curries that are on offer. The menu is only in Japanese, though the owner will be happy to try and translate for you. This soup curry is located down a small alley and is not the easiest to find, but once there you can enjoy a good dinner or late night feast!

This soup curry restaurant doesn’t have the spice range of other soup curries but the ingredients are great, and this soup curry restaurant has a tomato based soup curry flavor option that other restaurants don’t have! They have a chicken leg and vegetable, a delicious basil sausage and vegetables, seafood, pork and vegetable or bacon, and a special soup curry with udon noodles. For an extra ￥100 you can get extra toppings for your curry. All soup curries come with a rice dish. Beer, spirits, and lassis are also on the drink menu.
