The airport is the gateway to Hokkaido and sees over twenty million visitors each year pass through its gates. From the airport to the major city of Sapporo, it is a 45 minute train ride or an hour bus ride. The three story complex has an array of souvenir stores, restaurants, relaxation facilities, and entertainment facilities.

Points of interest at the New Chitose Airport include the Hokkaido Ramen Dojo. You can enjoy one more ramen bowl before heading home. There are ten famous Hokkaido ramen stores to choose from. At the airport you can also check out Roycs Chocolate World. They have a small factory to watch, a chocolate museum, and of course, a chocolate shop. Yushoku Tonsai Ichi Ni San is a pork restaurant that is located on the dining and restaurant floor in Stellar Place. The brand behind the restaurant is “Kagoshima Black Pork”. Kagoshima being a large city on the southern island of Kyushu. This restaurant has an extensive menu. The menu primarily consists of pork dishes, though noodle dishes can also be found to enjoy. Their specialty is a fusion of Black Pork Shabu Shabu with a soba soup. Delicious! There are also other various dishes from Kagoshima that can be found on the menu.

They also offer other menus with Kagoshima Black Pork, such as pork cutlet, skewered cutlet, and ginger-flavored fried pork, as well as Kagoshima’s local dishes and sashimi. The restaurant is nicely set out and has a distinct Japanese feel, and being in the Stellar Place, JR Tower building, you can get some nice views looking down onto the plaza outside of Sapporo station. This is a great (and affordable) restaurant to enjoy a nice lunch or a dinner. And after having a good meal, you can do some shopping or watch a movie at the cinema on the floor above!

*For Asahikawa locations see below

The Fukuyoshi brand formed in 2013, is the creation of a merger between two Japanese companies dating back over eighty years. The Fukui Seisakusho company (founded in Asahikawa in 1948), and the tea shop “Yoshikawaen” (established in 1945). The result of this merger has bought in three fantastic cafe/restaurants to the Hokkaido region. There are two of these cafes in Asahikawa, and one is the city of Sapporo. At these restaurants you can find some delicious teas, coffees, ice creams, and some great curries, including mouth watering soup curries.

The main cafe in Asahikawa has been renovated from the historic building “Kitajima Flour Mill”, which was built around 1914. The store in Sapporo also has a lovely rustic feel, as it was renovated from a brick stable originally built in 1955. The menu has a lot to choose from with three main type of dishes. Each is equally delicious. Fukuyoshi has soup curries with a dozen to choose from (the hamburger and vegetables curry is delicious), plus they have curry and rice dishes, and they also have hot skillet beef hamburg sets. Fukuyoshi is famous for its coffees and its ice cream so make sure you try these too!

Ganso Sapporo Ramen Yokocho, better known as ‘Ramen Alley’ is a famous street that is often busy with hungry tourists and nationals alike. This small alley is well known for its long history and is also a popular sightseeing spot. It is the birthplace of ‘Miso Ramen’ and is also the first to put ‘Sapporo Ramen’ on the map and make it a nationwide name. Ramen Alley began way back in 1948 with the opening of eight ramen houses. There are now currently 17 different ramen restaurants that line the alley. These ramen stores are often busy with people lining up to get in.

Each store has its own opening and closing times, usually from midday until late at night. The alley itself is open from lunch until the early hours in the morning. You will find the alley can get quite busy around midnight due to many patrons getting hungry after a night out drinking in Susukino.  Every restaurant has its own unique style and distinct flavor. Many of the shops have an English menu to cater for the tourists. Ordering is easy and the staff are friendly. If you are in Sapporo, and looking for a good meal while experiencing a little history, look no further than Ramen Alley.

The cafe/restaurant is located in Factory shopping center in Sapporo. It is on the basement floor right next the stage and large Tv screen, in the big event space
Sapporo Factory 3 Article Building B1F 4-chome, Kita 2 Johigashi, Chuo Ward, Sapporo, Hokkaido 060-0032

Cafe Espuma can be found on the basement floor of the Sapporo Factory shopping center. The basement floor contains ‘the Atrium’ which is a huge space full of restaurants, inside garden, stage, and event space. It is here you can find Cafe Espuma. It has seating inside the restaurant as well as tables lining outside the restaurant in the Atrium. Due to its central location, it is an often crowded restaurant and sometimes difficult to get seating, especially for big groups. Once inside and seated you can enjoy tea, coffee, or the meals on their menu.

The staff cannot really communicate very well in English, and the menu is primarily in Japanese only but it does have pictures, so when ordering, it is simply a matter of pointing to what you want (for those who can’t speak Japanese). They have some teas to order, a selection of coffees, and a variety of ‘ice’ drinks. These ice drinks include soft drinks, yoghurt, milk, and juices. The food menu has omelette & rice dishes (known as Om Rice), pizzas, and a roast beef dish. The set menu includes a buffet. As part of your meal, you can grab your own salad and soup to have with your ordered meal. Enjoy.
