This interestingly named store is a chain of restaurants that can be found throughout all of Japan. There is only one ‘Hole in the Wall’ in Hokkaido and that can be found directly above Sapporo station in the Stellar Place shopping center on the 6th floor. These restaurants originally started as far back as 1952 and were one of the few that started to specialize in spaghetti. Back at that time, Italian food was still very new to Japan so there is a lot of history behind these stores. To make it more familiar with Japanese people they used Japanese ingredients making their own “Japanese-style spaghetti.”
This Japanese, Italian fusion cuisine has some interesting dishes on its menu. Hole in the Wall has five types of raw pasta, including spaghetti, tagliolini and tagliatelle. The menu has over thirty different pastas to choose from, many with toppings with a Japanese flavor such as squid, fish eggs, sea urchin and dried sea weed to name a few. There are lunch sets that come with a salad and drink. The antipasti menu has prosciutto, french fries in garlic butter, or garlic toast. Hole in the Wall also have some nice steak dishes on their main dishes.

And no, the ingredients do not contain any wolf! The name reflects on nature and life, which is a running theme through many ramen restaurants. Wolf Soup Ramen opened its doors in 2002 and since then, has enjoyed success. The ingredients that go into their bowls are from mainly Hokkaido. Specifically, many of their vegetables such as potatoes, ginger, garlic and onions are all from provinces within Hokkaido. The noodles themselves, being one of the ingredients, are blended from strong wheat in Hokkaido. Blended brown and white miso used in their dishes are stored in wooden barrels of Shinshuyama Manmiso giving the miso a sharp taste. This single store can be found across from Nakajima Park. It can be found along route 36 across from the Daiwa Roynet Hotel and is just down from the Mercure Hotel. The best thing about this small izakaya is that it has street side seating which is great during spring and especially the summer. During the winter, they have a heavy plastic cover and inside heaters to keep you warm. Shousukedon has lots of small dishes, plus meat dishes which you can cook yourself on a small open flame grill.

It is also here on the second floor, they have a small dining area. Booty serves up some of the best hamburgers you will find anywhere in Hokkaido! We challenge you to find better! Among the dishes and desserts, the menu has five mouth watering burgers that are served with fries and olives. Each burger is made to perfection in front of you using local Hokkaido beef. And while you’re here, try some of the wine or sake on the menu. The great thing about this club (which you won’t find anywhere else) is that it’s free to get in! It’s easy to drop in, buy a drink from the super friendly staff, and enjoy well mixed tunes from the in house DJ’s!
