Shousukedon is a cozy izakaya located in Sapporo, in the Susukino district. It’s got a lot of character and has a rustic charm about it. It can be found along route 36 across from the Daiwa Roynet Hotel and is just down from the Mercure Hotel. The best thing about this small izakaya is that it has street side seating which is great during spring and especially the summer. During the winter, they have a heavy plastic cover and inside heaters to keep you warm. Shousukedon has lots of small dishes, plus meat dishes which you can cook yourself on a small open flame grill.
It’s great to sit outside and watch the street and people go buy as you chow down on some simple food and have a few beers. If you want to stay a while, they have an all you can drink plan (nomi-hodai) which goes for two hours at ¥2000. They also have whiskey, shochu, wine, bottles of sake and some nice fruit wine. The staff here are really friendly and also many of the local patrons here are often relaxed, laid back and like to chat. It is small izakayas like this that have a unique feel and are interesting, especially for travelers from foreign lands, and well worth a visit!
