Solitude is very cozy jazz bar in Sapporo. It is as you would expect a dark and atmospheric bar with some very nice jazz tunes to chill to. Access is via a narrow flight of steps down. The bartender is very welcoming and, being a jazz drummer himself, a very cool character. He knows a lot about jazz! He also knows plenty about sake. This is the perfect spot to have a quiet drink and relax to some tunes. The bar is not far from Tanuki Koji and there is a small sit down charge but it’s worth it. The drinks are not overly expensive. There is only counter seating but it’s a great chance to talk to the owner and fellow jazz enthusiasts.

For those who enjoy their sake, Fuu is a top spot to visit. Fuu is a Japanese izakaya located in Susukino on the basement floor. It is a large restaurant and bar with counter seating, small private booths, and large rooms for special occasions. It’s one of the few places that has an ‘all you can drink’ that has Nishon-shu (sake) on the menu. For around ¥2500 you can taste a large selection of different sakes from all over Japan! A real bargain. And if you don’t like sake, then they do have bottles of Sapporo classic included. The sake menu is written only in Japanese unfortunately so you will need someone who can read Japanese or have an app that can explain the different types of ske you can pick from.

[the_ad id=”4264″]

While sampling your sake, you can enjoy some good Japanese cuisine for the full experience. Whats better than sipping on some sake with some nice seafood. At Fuu, they have an abundance of dishes to choose from. They have sushi, sashimi, fish, salads plus a selection of side dishes. At Fuu, the staff are very helpful and can assist you in your choice of sake. The decor is simple and wooden, and darkly lit giving off a nice atmosphere. Fuu is a great place to check out especially if you want to try a variety of different sakes.

Getting There
King Xhmu is on the southern end of Susukino. It's a 6 minute walk from either Nakajima Koen station or Susukino station. Best to exit Susukino station and walk south down the main road of Susukino. The club will be on the right down south 6 street.
4 Chome-424-10 Minami 7 Jonishi, Chuo Ward, Sapporo, Hokkaido 064-0807

King Xhmu is one of the biggest clubs in Sapporo and Hokkaido, if not the biggest. The club has a striking edifice, that of stone serpents and a giant Aztecan face bearing down over the street. The inside is equally impressive with a three story high interior decked out with cool designs such as silver gilded snakes, skulls, and a giant bird of prey spreading its wings over the bar. The club has a main dance floor area with a stage, two bars, a smaller dance floor on the second floor plus a women’s sitting area. The club is mostly popular after 23:00 where it gets busy.

[the_ad id=”4264″]

For those entering the club, after showing ID, party goers will realize that men have to pay more than their female counterparts. Women are usually free. For those unfamiliar with the club, the cost is around ¥3500 for men. The club, although of its large size, has a relatively small dance area and standing area. A lot of the club is made up of (and usually empty) VIP lounge areas that a cordoned off from the main area. These VIP areas are the only places to sit in the club unfortunately, so unless you want to spend up to an extra ¥20,000 you have to stand.  Cocktails, beers, and champagne are sold at the bar. Cocktails are served in small plastic cups and the small plastic shot glasses are rarely filled to the top. It’s better to order bottled beer to get your moneys worth. Drinks are around ¥500. There are events throughout the year, so check the website for more information.

The leather couches that make up the dining booths are comfortable. These booths are perfect for small groups to enjoy some good beer and good bar food. There are tables out the back and there is ample counter seating. This bar is a late night bar and is usually quite full even in the later hours. The food here is a fusion of western bar food and Japanese noodles.

[the_ad id=”4264″]

On the menu there are some fantastic dry noodle dishes. There are some spicy elements that can be enjoyed and these dishes really do go well with beer. Other dishes you can enjoy include are delicious fish and chips that pack an English style punch. The beer here flows well plus there are other drinks to be had. Wine and cocktails and spirits can all be enjoyed here at Beifutei. Being open until 3:00am on the weekends is very handy especially for those who don’t want the party to end. Great food and good beer can be found here!
