Furano Marche is a small plaza that is home to twenty different shops, eateries and restaurants. Furano Marche serves as a popular tourist spot where you can pick up some great souvenirs, buy some local produce to take home to the kitchen, or take a rest and enjoy a quick feed on some local popular fare. It is conveniently located in the centre of the small town of Furano, and is a stones throw away from Furano station, and Furano shrine. If you are driving in, there is ample parking to be found. Furano marche makes a great spot to include on your travels in the area.

Furano Marche is separated into two different sections, Furano Marche 1 and Furano March 2. They are located on two parallel blocks separated by a small road. Furano Marche 1 has an open plaza in the centre, whereas Marche 2 is a larger building complex. Furano Marche 1 includes a mouth watering burger shop, a cafe, a fresh bread store, a takoyaki (fried octopus snack) shop, a fruit juice counter, a local produce store and souvenir store. The larger building of Marche 2 has a flower store, local souvenir store, a rice ball eatery to take out, a local restaurant, a grocery store, a ramen restaurant, and an ice-sundae eatery.

Whenever a band has a gig at Studio 810, Bar Stingray will live feed it on their screens in the bar area, so you can enjoy a drink and get an idea of which band is playing downstairs. When it comes to the beer menu, they have Sapporo and Carlsberg on tap. Bottled beers include Budweiser, Corona, Heineken, Suntory, and Asahi. They also have Japanese sakes from around Japan, such as Lotus and Mitake to enjoy, plus wines and spirits. The food menu includes usual bar fare, including hamburgers, spicy tacos, and duck pastrami. There is a party plan, and Bar Stingray can be rented out for group parties.

Natural surroundings
Between the Bread is a nice little hamburger shop, situated in Biei, surrounded by the majestic Taisetsuzan mountains. The restaurant can be found at the roadside station ‘Biei Shirokanebiruke’. This roadside station is two kilometres down the road from the Blue Pond and it is here, after seeing the sights around Biei, you can get a much needed bite to eat. The restaurant has plenty of seating inside, and there is also a large deck overlooking a wooded park area. All burgers are take-out so you enjoy them anywhere!

The cheeseburger
There are several burgers on the menu. The menu being a large, pictured poster board, in English as well as Japanese, next to the ordering counter. The burgers range from an egg burger, avocado burger, to the whopping double cheeseburger. The burgers on the menu all use ingredients harvested in the town of Biei, creating a delicious tasting burger. The set menu comes with french fries and a drink. The drink menu has the standard range plus a Biei drinking yogurt, and a Biei wheat beer. All burgers have an extras topping option.

The Sakura Restaurant is a pleasant Western & Japanese style restaurant, that also serves as a gallery and an arts & crafts store! It is located just down the hill from Asahiyama Zoo and the perfect spot to grab some lunch or dinner. With plenty of room, customers are free to wander around and look at the restaurants arts & crafts that are on sale. Suitable for couples or large groups (for large groups, reservations are required). Sakura restaurant also has nice views, in any season, overlooking its well manicured gardens.

This restaurant has both western style dishes and Japanese dishes on its very affordable menu! With lunch sets at less than ¥1000 yen, its a delicious bargain. The hamburg set is one of the most popular dishes, which is 100% Japanese beef delivered directly from Okada farm. Other dishes include seafood and chicken curries, Japanese and Western style pizzas, and for dessert, ice-creams and cakes. Japanese dishes have udon noodles in the winter, and somen noodles in the summer. Of course, if you just want to stop in for a nice quiet cup of coffee or tea, then Sakura Restaurant has it as well!

Freshness Burger is a nation wide chain of burger restaurants that were first opened in 1992. There are 3 stores in the Sapporo area, and there is 1 in Chitose. The stores in Hokkaido use local ingredients, and the hamburger patties are an original recipe. Tony Roma’s is a world wide chain that specializes in ribs, steaks and burgers with their signature BBQ sauce. Tony Roma’s history goes back over 40 years and its chain reaches over 30 countries, but only recently has it reached the shores of Hokkaido. Their most popular item is their ribs but they do offer a range of other meals. There is a special lunch menu, and a bar and all this is located across from one of Sapporo’s most famous landmarks, the Clock Tower. The space is large, with seating for over 100 people, so groups are ok. There is a separate smoking section and a bar area that serves up beers, cocktails, and non-alcohol beverages.

The layout gives views of the streets and there are some interesting black & white photos lining the walls that give this restaurant a sense of history.
