This is a very unique izakaya in the center of Sapporo. What sets this place apart from anywhere else is not only the decor but the menu. Upon entering, you will see a huge array of toys, posters, and other memorabilia from the 1950`s. It’s a great look and what sets it all off is the lighting and the music. Music from that era also adds to the experience. Once inside you can choose counter seating or table seating. Tables cater to about four people. The menu. The menu is written only in Japanese and covers three or four huge pages. The food here is pretty basic and consists mainly of fried dishes. They have oden, grilled meats, and other finger food on sticks. A couple of unique dishes that you could try are the frog legs or the sparrow eggs. Not for the faint hearted. The food here is pretty cheap as well as the drinks. There is an all you can drink option for 90 minutes. Individual drinks such as beer and highballs (which are the main two items), are only about ¥500 per drink. This is a definitely a must see while in Sapporo!

Highly recommended especially during the Snow Festival! For drinks, they have some great sake here and wine that compliments the food very well. This is a small izakaya that can be found in one of the backstreets of Susukino, Sapporo. This izakaya is made up of two floors. The ground floor has counter seating facing the small kitchen here. The second floor is a little more spacious. The ground floor is a little cramped so this bar is better for small groups of up to four, or couples. A few things to note, the menu here is only in Japanese and the staff have minimal English ability so it’s better to have some Japanese knowledge. It is generally a late night bar and is open until 3:00am. They have beer and cocktail plus Japanese sake here. Food wise, they have a huge amount of different dishes wish is impressive seeing the size of the small kitchen. They have oysters, meats, fish, a signature omelette dish plus salads. The whole first floor is dedicated to the seafood market. They have lots and lots of frozen produce. They have lots of salmon products. You can buy some really quality and large cuts of salmon. Obviously, the price increases as the size of the cuts does. The store is actually call ‘Sato Suisan’ and many of their products are sent out to their stores across Hokkaido. To areas such as Hakodate and the New Chitose Airport to name a couple. After a little bit of shopping we recommend having lunch at the seafood restaurant on the next floor up. The restaurant is called ‘Old River’ and has a very extensive menu. Old River has plenty of seating but the best seats are the window seats and these overlook Ishikari River. If you want the window seats you can ask for them but the wait will be a little longer. But no matter where you are sitting, you can enjoy a great lunch here for about ¥1500.
Salmon Factory is a good place to visit if you are looking for seafood, some souvenirs as a gift or just for a special lunch. If you want to make a day of it, then after some lunch and some shopping, you should head out to Aso Beach which is about another 15 to 20 minute drive further north. This is a great spot, especially in the summer.

For those who enjoy their sake, Fuu is a top spot to visit. Fuu is a Japanese izakaya located in Susukino on the basement floor. It is a large restaurant and bar with counter seating, small private booths, and large rooms for special occasions. It’s one of the few places that has an ‘all you can drink’ that has Nishon-shu (sake) on the menu. For around ¥2500 you can taste a large selection of different sakes from all over Japan! A real bargain. And if you don’t like sake, then they do have bottles of Sapporo classic included. The sake menu is written only in Japanese unfortunately so you will need someone who can read Japanese or have an app that can explain the different types of ske you can pick from.
