For those who enjoy their sake, Fuu is a top spot to visit. Fuu is a Japanese izakaya located in Susukino on the basement floor. It is a large restaurant and bar with counter seating, small private booths, and large rooms for special occasions. It’s one of the few places that has an ‘all you can drink’ that has Nishon-shu (sake) on the menu. For around ¥2500 you can taste a large selection of different sakes from all over Japan! A real bargain. And if you don’t like sake, then they do have bottles of Sapporo classic included. The sake menu is written only in Japanese unfortunately so you will need someone who can read Japanese or have an app that can explain the different types of ske you can pick from.

While sampling your sake, you can enjoy some good Japanese cuisine for the full experience. Whats better than sipping on some sake with some nice seafood. At Fuu, they have an abundance of dishes to choose from. They have sushi, sashimi, fish, salads plus a selection of side dishes. At Fuu, the staff are very helpful and can assist you in your choice of sake. The decor is simple and wooden, and darkly lit giving off a nice atmosphere. Fuu is a great place to check out especially if you want to try a variety of different sakes.

Ramen is very filling on its own but here you can find some fantastic set meals. The set meals are a bowl of ramen with a side dish and a bowl of rice. Some of the side dishes you get with your ramen include fried chicken and rice (fried chicken set), chinese dumplings and rice(gyoza set), fried rice (half fried rice set), or the rice with nori and wasabi (mini mountain wasabi bowl combination). These set meals are all around the ¥1000 mark. There is also a counter where you can add some extra toppings for free! This ramen store is definitely a good restaurant to check out while in Susukino.

He has been credited with catapulting Neapolitan pizza to fame in Japan. Another claim to fame is the large wood fire pizza oven that is a prominent feature in the restaurants. Today he operates and supervises more than 77 Pizza Salvatore restaurants throughout the country. There are two of these in Hokkaido and they are both in Sapporo. One being right near Sapporo Station and next to Yodobashi Camera. The other is in the Susukino district.
At the Salvatore Cuomo restaurants they have, obviously, a large selection of pizzas. These are cooked in the iconic wood fire oven. There is also a buffet style course that gives diners a selection of pizzas, pastas and salads to choose from. The other option is to choose just a set meal. This comes with a salad and drink. At these restaurants they have party plans. These range from ¥2500 to ¥4500 per person and include an all you can drink plan plus a variety of dishes. These restaurants were hugely popular when they first opened and continue to be a good spot to get some lunch or dinner.

Zanshin is a cool little bar in Susukino, Sapporo. It is particularly well known to snowboarders, skiers, and skateboarders. The staff here are and were semi pro skiers and snowboarders and definitely bring friendliness and some wildness to the bar! The Sapporo classic here on tap is ¥500 a glass (a little cheaper than most places), and the cocktails are the same. A lot of the patrons are regulars and the atmosphere is very laid back and fun. There is some counter seating plus a couple of couches and tables fro larger groups.
There is also a very small upstairs area that has room for sitting only. There are a couple of basic food dishes that the staff can cook up for you. This includes a nice curry and rice bowl. This bar opens quite late at 21:00 and kicks on to the early hours of the morning. It can get busy around 1:00 to 2:00 in the morning. The bar is on the 5th floor and is above the club ‘Riviera’ which is on the basement floor. After the club closes, many revelers tend to head up to Zanshin. Bar España is a very popular bar located in the centre of Susukino. It is also part of a small chain run by a friendly local businessman. The other bar being the equally popular Bar España Carne. The bar is on the main street that runs through the nightlife district. It is usually full and bustling with those on a night out on the town. They have some great Spanish wines here plus cocktails and beer on tap. There is an ‘all you can drink’ option if need be. The bar is also popular because of the Spanish cuisine served up here. For those who enjoy a good paella, the paella here won an award back in 2018.
The food here is quite good. Other dishes of note include raw oysters from the Sakai family. These oysters from Akkeshi are popular winter speciality at Espana. Perfect to go with both wine and beer. More Spanish dishes include Iberian grilled pork, a classic dish ahijo (shrimp and garlic boiled in olive oil), grilled mushrooms with prosciutto ham, and a Spanish omelette. The layout is nice but small. For those in groups of four or more it is a good idea to book in advance. For couples it makes for a great date spot. Bar Espana is a must try especially in the warmer months with their outside seating. Disfrutar!
