Malaika is a store that introduces handicrafts and natural materials from around the world. Their products are from all over, including Africa, the Americas, and Asia. These products have been made with traditional materials and the cultures of each country can be seen in each product, making for a fantastic store. Each staff member who works at Malaika spends time overseas in the places that these products are from. This creates a real appreciation of the culture plus it creates a personal bond between the store and its suppliers. There are four Malaika stores in Hokkaido with one in Sapporo, Asahikawa, Chitose, and Hakodate.

The Malaika stores have a great range of products. These include ornaments for decorating the house, plus sculptures, a large collection of incense sticks and some beautiful light shades. They also have a huge variety of jewelry made from many different materials and stones. If you are looking for clothing, Malaika has this too! The great thing about this store, is that the prices are decent and even if you don’t end up buy anything, it’s a good shop to wander around and look at their wares. There aren’t many shops like this around in Hokkaido so check it out!

Zara is a famous worldwide chain of clothing stores that can found all over the world. It originated in Spain and opened its first store in 1975. Since then, the Zara (which was initially named the store Zorba), has spread out to 96 different countries around the world. Zara finally reached the shores of Hokkaido and opened a store in the heart of Sapporo. This popular clothing store consists of three levels and caters to women, men and children so there is something for everybody.

The store can be found in the Ikeuchi Zone department store. Its a nice area in the shopping district and is next to one of the Starbucks in town. The basement 1 floor is for mens, the first floor (ground floor) is for ladies clothing plus it is here you can find accessories, jewelry, and other fashion goods. The next level up on the second floor is also for ladies plus kids clothing can be found here. Throughout the year they have sales and bargains, especially during the change of seasons, so keep an eye out! There are also various restaurants and cafes around making for a nice shopping day out.

Sweet tooth or looking for a nice gift? Chocolatier Masále could be the store for you. The chocolate store was originally created in 1988. At that time there were very few confectionary stores that specialized in delicious chocolate. Hokkaido, having a similar climate to Europe, was the perfect spot to start creating some delicious sweets. Chocolatier Masále uses forty to fifty kinds of carefully selected high quality chocolates from around the world! Fresh dairy products from Hokkaido are also to create their wares. Their chocolates are handmade and designed to appeal to the eyes as well as the tastebuds!

There is one main Chocolatier Masále in the city of Sapporo which acts as the main store and cafe, plus there are two other stores which operate as the main retailers. These two stores can be found in central Sapporo, with one being found in Paseo West at Sapporo station. The other store can be found in the Mitsukoshi department store which is right by Odori Park. All stores sell a variety of beautifully presented cakes and chocolates. There are also boxed chocolates plus pastries. The town of Shimukappu is a small town found in central Hokkaido. It is a quaint town surrounded by low mountains and farmlands. It is on one of the main expressways that run through Hokkaido making the town a convenient place to stop in for a rest or supplies. In the centre of the town travelers can find the Shimukappu Shopping Mall as well as the culture centre. They are both located right next to each other. The shopping mall is full of small shops, information on the area, and a couple of restaurants.

The shops at the shopping mall sell local souvenirs including arts and crafts such as wood carvings and local produce. Why, walking around, why not purchase some of the local wines, fresh vegetables from the outlying farms, or take back some canned or bottled foods to eat at home! If you are stopping in for a quick bite, there is a nice little hamburg & curry rice restaurant to check out. They also have a bakery, plus an ice cream shop for those hot sunny days! Located in the centre of Hokkaido, you can find the province of Shimukappu. The small town of Shimukappu is surrounded by two rivers, the Mukawa River and the Soshubetsu River. The town of Shimukappu is along the Doto Expressway and is located at a crossroads so it sees a fair amount of traffic passing through. There is only one supermarket in the town and it is the Yokokawa Supermarket. The supermarket can be found across from the Shimukappu Village Office and can be easily recognized by the historical clock tower on the roof.

If you are stopping in and need a place to stock up on supplies, then this supermarket to be. There are many campgrounds around in the summer or even if you are staying at a hotel in the surrounding areas, this supermarket has a lot of produce to choose from. They have a wide selection of fresh foods, such as fresh fish as well as daily necessities. They have a large corner stocked with wine, spirits, and beer. In summer, there are outdoor goods such as charcoal, and other barbecue gear. being the only grocery store in the wide area, it is a cheap place to get your supplies!

The Forest Shopping Centre is convenient spot that can be found in the centre of Furano. In the city of Furano there are many great restaurants to visit, but if you are camping in one of the many campgrounds in the area and looking to stock up on some supplies, or even just some snacks for the road, then the Forest Shopping Centre is extremely convenient. The centre is made up of two stories. The ground floor is the main supermarket. It is here you can grab supplies and groceries. During the warmer months, they have a lot of local produce including delicious melons.

The top floor has a few stores including a Japanese restaurant. The restaurant, Shiki No Megumi, is a delicious place where you can stop in and have a delicious lunch after shopping. The menu includes some Japanese dishes of soba noodles, tempura, and seafood, all at a fair price. The Forest Shopping centre, also has an ATM on the ground floor which is very handy and can be set to English if need be. There is ample parking at the centre for 250 cars. Also, if you are looking for cooking gear, outside supplies, or even household items, there is a Homac right next door!
