Homely interior

Cafe Lounge Mauni Hill is situated on the Ishikari coast line, just under an hour drive from central Sapporo. Its a beautiful cafe and restaurant that offers views out to Ishikari bay. It is next to Hamanasunooka Park, which is a sanctuary for bird life. This comfortable restaurant, with its couches, and spacious interior is a great spot to relax, take in the views, and have a coffee or a spot of lunch. This two story building also has outside seating where you can enjoy the sounds of the ocean. Due to its remote location, your own transport is needed to get there.

Delicious curry

The restaurant serves up mainly spaghetti dishes for lunch. They have a seafood spaghetti, plus a carbonara, curry pasta, anchovy spaghetti, or a tomato base pasta. Cafe Lounge Mauni Hill also has a curry and rice with papadums. And after your meal, you can order from the coffee menu and enjoy a nice cup while taking in the views through the large windows. They also have a select dessert menu on which to indulge in, if you are wanting something sweet. Being on the beach, there are plenty of places to stroll around end enjoy the nature.

Lunch set!

Ootoya is a nice, large restaurant located in the dining section of Maruyama class. Ootoya is a great option if you are looking for a big lunch or dinner at a reasonable price. For just under ¥1000 you can get a set meal with rice, a miso soup, a salad, and some vegetables! Most of the dishes are around this place which is a good bargain for some nice food. The spacious restaurant has plenty of seating, and is good for couples or groups. The menu is in Japanese only, but each dish is pictured, so it is easy to choose and order.

Grilled fish

So, what is on the menu? At Ootoya, there is a lot to choose from! This restaurant has a selection of chicken dishes, such as a basil chicken or a fried chicken known as ‘zangi’ in Hokkaido. Other Japanese dishes include both soba and udon noodles, which both comes in a set. There are also fish and pork dishes that can be ordered. For a little extra, there are plenty of side dishes to go with your meal if need be. There is a separate kids meal for the young ones, plus if you are in a rush, then there take away packs to feast on later. With all the meals you can order beer, juices or spirits for dinner.

The culture center entrance

If you are looking for a place to find some literature, to do some study, relax on the grounds, or to check out some art or cultural artifacts, then the Sapporo Central Library will help all your needs! The library is made up of four floors, including a basement floor. Once inside, you can find the entrance to the Maizo Culture Center in the main foyer. The culture center has great exhibitions which are held throughout the year. The exhibition room is free to enter. There is also a small coffee shop, where you can sit and relax.

Study time

The library itself, whether it be for study, reading or research, is on the first two floors. If you live, work, or are a student in Sapporo, you can get a library card to borrow materials. You need to bring one piece of identification with your current name on it. Upon receiving your free library card, you may start borrowing books from any municipal library in Sapporo. Children under age 12 are not required to bring any piece of identification to get a library card. You can borrow all loan items, including books, magazines, CDs, DVDs and videos, without fee.

If you forget your library card, you can borrow books and other items by showing your name and address. Newspapers, foreign magazines, reference books, maps and atlases (marked [館内]) may be used only within the library. What makes the Sapporo Central Library a nice place to visit is not only the library itself, but the broad park that lies behind the building. There are paths and benches, which makes for the perfect spot to sit in the sun and read a good book. You can find some tranquility here in the city.

You will find most of the window seating inside the library has views over the park. Here you can also read, or have a coffee and unwind. Lastly, if you happen to be having a long day at the library and wouldn’t mind a spot of lunch, then the basement floor one will suit your needs. It is here, the library has a small tea and lunch house. Prices range from a very affordable ¥350 to ¥500. They have curries, ramen, and noodles and salads for which to enjoy. The restaurant seating also faces the park, making for a pleasant spot to eat.

Pizzas to choose from

Majestic is an Italian restaurant, that can be found in the middle of Sapporo city, a couple of blocks from Odori Park. Located on the basement floor, Majestic serves as a restaurant both for lunch and dinner. Due to its dark and fancy interior, it also serves well as a bar, and is also a popular spot for parties, and wedding functions. Charming interior

Being an Italian style restaurant, Majestic has choices of pasta dishes, pizzas, as well as a sizable selection of antipasti. The menu comes only in Japanese, though the menu some pictures to help decide. The antipasti menu has around fifteen small dishes, such as anchovies and olives, salmon carpaccio, or a shrimp & Tokachi mushroom ‘ajillo’. The thin crust pizzas come in half or full sizes, and the various pastas come in cream or tomato based sauces. There is also a course option. The courses vary from size and cost, from ¥2000 to ¥7000. As Majestic is also a bar they have a great range of wines, beers, and spirits.

Views of the table seating

On the third floor of Maruyama Class, you can find some delicious restaurants. Bibi de Baru de Moon is an Italian restaurant serving up some delicious dishes. There is table dining as well as counter seating. At the counter, there are views of the open kitchen which is a nice touch. Watch as the pizzas are cooked to perfection in the wood fire stove. Baru de Moon is open for lunch, and for dinner, and after a good wander around the Maruyama area, this restaurant a good choice for either occasion.

Four cheeses pasta dish

Bibi de Baru de Moon has a lot to choose from in its menu. They have at least a dozen different pizzas to choose from. Their unique pizzas include traditional ingredients plus a variety of new ones. Take your pick of seafood, vegetables, and meat pizzas. As with the pizza dishes, there is a large selection of pasta dishes as well! Enjoy some tomato based, or cream based pastas such as the four cheese cream pasta which a delicious indulgence. There are also side dishes of sashimi, chicken, and salads. And while dining, don’t forgot the wine menu that has a selection of Italian wines!

Huge park area next to facilities

Whilst on the road and taking in the sightseeing spots in Biei, the Biei Shirokanebiruke Roadside Station is a nice spot to have a rest, do some shopping, grab a bite to eat, or to enjoy the park and its facilities. The rest area is just down the road from the Blue Pond, and also the Kaiku Kiln Museum, which are some good spots to visit while in Biei. There are about half a dozen new buildings at the site, which is surrounded by a large park that incorporates a park golf course.

Souvenir shop

Besides the park golf course, you can find restrooms here for some relief. For those looking for a quick bite to eat, there is a nice little hamburger shop called Between the Bread. Here you can eat inside their restaurant, or have lunch in the park. The park is full of sculptures and there is a table tennis table plus some instruments(interestingly), and seating. The other buildings include a souvenir shop that has information about Biei and the surrounding areas, plus an ice-cream shop, and a North Face outdoor equipment store.
