Ateniyoru is a Japanese restaurant that mixes primarily Japanese oden dishes accompanied with select sake and beer. Oden is a Japanese one-pot dish consisting of several ingredients such as boiled eggs, daikon, konjac, and processed fishcakes stewed in a light, soy-flavored dashi broth. For those who aren’t a big fan of oden, this is definitely still a place to try! Ateniyoru has an array of small dishes to make up a delicious lunch or dinner. The subtle and unique flavors at this restaurant are fantastic, especially if you are looking for a Japanese cuisine experience.

Unfortunately, the menu is only in Japanese, and there are only a few pictures so being with someone who has Japanese ability might be useful. The dishes are mainly seafood dishes plus the oden dishes. There is a great lunch menu, which is recommended, that is sea bream in sauce, plus an oden dish, pickles, flavored tofu, and an amazing tea strained through fish pieces that is used to poor on your rice bowl. Great Japanese cuisine! Ateniyoru also has a large selection of Japanese sake to go with their dishes. Ask their experienced and friendly staff which one to try!.

Tendon Tenya is a delicious and cheap choice for those looking for some Japanese cuisine. This is a popular spot, especially for those looking to get a quick lunch. As it a busy restaurant, it suitable for only small groups of up to three or four. The menu focuses on mainly tempura and noodles. The tempura menu has shrimp, squid, fish, pumpkin, mushroom, and okra. These tempura bowls come in big or small. Alternatively, you can get a tempura set meal with a soup, plus a small bowl of udon noodles or soba noodles.

The extensive menu has not only tempura, but also noodles. Take your choice of soba noodles or udon noodles. The set menu includes a bowl of miso soup, pickled vegetables, and a bowl of steamed rice. Jozankei is a beautiful mountain town that is famous for its hot springs. Up in the mountains, it is a popular destination spot that is frequented by both tourists and locals. Besides the onsens (hot springs), there are plenty of activities to see and do. It is here at the Jozankei Sight Seeing Information Center, that you can not only get some more information on the town of Jozankei, but there is a small museum in the building as well. The building is on the main road, right by a bus stop so it’s easy to find. The staff at the desk have English skills and are eager to help, they can give you information on events around Jozankei plus bus times!

Cafe Lounge Mauni Hill is situated on the Ishikari coast line, just under an hour drive from central Sapporo. Its a beautiful cafe and restaurant that offers views out to Ishikari bay. It is next to Hamanasunooka Park, which is a sanctuary for bird life. This comfortable restaurant, with its couches, and spacious interior is a great spot to relax, take in the views, and have a coffee or a spot of lunch. This two story building also has outside seating where you can enjoy the sounds of the ocean. Due to its remote location, your own transport is needed to get there.

The restaurant serves up mainly spaghetti dishes for lunch. They have a seafood spaghetti, plus a carbonara, curry pasta, anchovy spaghetti, or a tomato base pasta. Cafe Lounge Mauni Hill also has a curry and rice with papadums. And after your meal, you can order from the coffee menu and enjoy a nice cup while taking in the views through the large windows. Ootoya is a nice, large restaurant located in the dining section of Maruyama class. Ootoya is a great option if you are looking for a big lunch or dinner at a reasonable price. For just under ¥1000 you can get a set meal with rice, a miso soup, a salad, and some vegetables! Most of the dishes are around this place which is a good bargain for some nice food. The spacious restaurant has plenty of seating, and is good for couples or groups. The menu is in Japanese only, but each dish is pictured, so it is easy to choose and order.

So, what is on the menu? At Ootoya, there is a lot to choose from! This restaurant has a selection of chicken dishes, such as a basil chicken or a fried chicken known as ‘zangi’ in Hokkaido. Other Japanese dishes include both soba and udon noodles, which both comes in a set. There are also fish and pork dishes that can be ordered. For a little extra, there are plenty of side dishes to go with your meal if need be. There is a separate kids meal for the young ones, plus if you are in a rush, then there take away packs to feast on later. With all the meals you can order beer, juices or spirits for dinner.

If you are looking for a place to find some literature, to do some study, relax on the grounds, or to check out some art or cultural artifacts, then the Sapporo Central Library will help all your needs! The library is made up of four floors, including a basement floor. Once inside, you can find the entrance to the Maizo Culture Center in the main foyer. The culture center has great exhibitions which are held throughout the year. The exhibition room is free to enter. There is also a small coffee shop, where you can sit and relax.

The library itself, whether it be for study, reading or research, is on the first two floors. If you live, work, or are a student in Sapporo, you can get a library card to borrow materials. You need to bring one piece of identification with your current name on it. Upon receiving your free library card, you may start borrowing books from any municipal library in Sapporo. Children under age 12 are not required to bring any piece of identification to get a library card. You can borrow all loan items, including books, magazines, CDs, DVDs and videos, without fee.
If you forget your library card, you can borrow books and other items by showing your name and address. Newspapers, foreign magazines, reference books, maps and atlases (marked [館内]) may be used only within the library. What makes the Sapporo Central Library a nice place to visit is not only the library itself, but the broad park that lies behind the building. There are paths and benches, which makes for the perfect spot to sit in the sun and read a good book. You can find some tranquility here in the city.
You will find most of the window seating inside the library has views over the park. Here you can also read, or have a coffee and unwind. Lastly, if you happen to be having a long day at the library and wouldn’t mind a spot of lunch, then the basement floor one will suit your needs. It is here, the library has a small tea and lunch house. Prices range from a very affordable ¥350 to ¥500. They have curries, ramen, and noodles and salads for which to enjoy. The restaurant seating also faces the park, making for a pleasant spot to eat.
