Tonkatsu is a delicious Japanese dish which consists of a breaded, deep fried pork cutlet. There are two main types, fillet and loin. It is often served with shredded cabbage. Tonkatsu Wako is a chain of Tonkatsu restaurants throughout the whole of Japan. There are five of these stores located in inner Sapporo and one on the coast in Tomakomai. All of these popular restaurants have the same mouth watering dishes on their menus, and at the same prices, so while in Hokkaido, be sure to drop in to Tonkatsu Wako for a tasty lunch or dinner.

The menu not only has deep fried pork cutlets, but also a variety of deep fried, seafood dishes. There is the deep fried shrimp or a nice deep fried crab meat croquette. Deep fried chicken is also on the menu! All the tonkatsu dishes come with a sauce (similar to that of a thick worcestershire sauce) and ‘karashi’ which is a hot mustard paste, exactly the same as a good hot english mustard. Tonkatsu dishes all come with rice, a miso soup and pickled vegetables to complete a perfect meal.

Rikyu Gyutan is a beef restaurant that specializes in grilled beef tongue. Nothing like trying something new! This unusual dish has been on Japanese menus for well over fifty years. There are two Rikyu Gyutan restaurants in Sapporo, one in Paseo West right by Sapporo station, the other is in the Aka Renga terrace building right next to the Former Hokkaido Government Office. Gytutan (beef tongue) dishes come in a variety of dishes, in stews, curries, or as steaks. There are set menus available as well!

Of course, if you don’t like beef, then there are some other dishes available as well, such as seafood, salads, and soups. If you love the gyutan taste, then you can take some home with you. The restaurants sell their meat products so you can get the gyutan taste at home. Also a good idea for a souvenir or gift!

Kineya is a delicious udon noodle shop located in the Paseo West restaurant section. There are two main kinds of noodles in Japan, soba noodles, and udon noodles. Udon noodles are a delicious thick wheat flour noodle and are a popular Japanese cuisine. Apart from a nice selection of udon noodle dishes at Kineya, the restaurant has a glass front where you can watch how the noodles are prepared and cut, which is a nice extra feature. Once inside Kineya restaurant you can choose from a large selection of dishes that will satisfy any customer.

The udon noodles are served hot, in a bowl with various extras to add to the taste. There is also a curry udon menu, a nice tempura set, and a beef and egg rice bowl, that can be ordered. Kineya also has a take out option for those who are on the go! Udon noodles are a perfect choice on any cold winters day. Reasonably priced, Kineya can be found on the B1 (basement floor) right next to Sapporo station.

EdVenture is a hands on summer and winter program created for kids and family to reconnect with each other and the environment through hands on immersive activities. These activities are designed to make the most of what the natural environment has to offer from season to season.
The EdVenture Summer camp is a hands-on, outdoor, family summer camp situated in Niseko, Hokkaido, Japan. It is the goal of EdVenture Niseko to encourage children and their families to take part in wonderful hands-on activities and learning opportunities. During camp the children will take part in a variety of activities from sports, to farm adventures to woodcraft and overnight camping all in the beautiful natural surroundings that Hokkaido has to offer. The summer program is not just a great way to have fun and learn some new skills but also a fantastic opportunity for the kids to make new friends whom have traveled from around the world to enjoy the Niseko summer season.

The EdVenture Winter camp is a truly unique snow experience experience for 4-14 year old’s. This is the only program in Niseko that will have participants involved in winter activities both on and off the ski hill. Morning sessions will have the children involved in fun and educational activities off the mountain before heading to their own semi-private ski lessons in the afternoon. Children will be picked up from their chalet at the start of the day and dropped home at the end. In between they will be taken care of by some of the best in the business. This is not just a great way to have fun and learn some new skills in the snow but also a fantastic opportunity for the kids to make new friends whom have traveled from around the world to enjoy the Niseko winter season as well.

Ramen is a delicious dish of Chinese noodles that is famous throughout Hokkaido. Located at Paseo West, Ezokko Ramen is popular restaurant that not only serves up ramen noodles, but also tasty ‘gyouza’ (Chinese dumplings). You can order individual pork ramen bowls, or you can go for the recommended gyouza and ramen set menu. This set menu comes with rice, a small salad, five pieces of gyouza (with sauce) and the bowl pork noodles. The noodles are served in large bowls so be sure to bring a large appetite!

Between Sapporo subway station, Odori subway station, and Susukino subway station, there is a large underground walkway that allows pedestrians to get to walk into town quickly and to stay out of the crisp cold weather in the chilly winter months. Mamma Per Te is located along this walkway near the Sapporo end. Serving up breakfasts, lunches, and dinners, Mamma Per Te is a good spot to refuel for the day. This restaurant also has take away sandwiches, salads and drinks for those on the go.

There are some great salads with healthy organic ingredients on the menu, as well as seafood and some juicy steaks. Order individually or there are set meals that can be ordered. Those looking for a drink, there is beer, wine and spirits on the menu with happy hour early evening, or why not grab a coffee or tea. Party plans can be organised (with a minimum of three people). These group plans cost around ¥3500 and include all you can drink plan with the meals. Reservations need to be made up to two days in advance.
