If you are in the entertainment district of Sapporo, and are looking for a late dinner, or one of those extremely late “grab a bite after a night out” scenarios, then Kuma-chan could answer those needs. It is a tiny, comfy restaurant settled in downtown Susukino. It is tucked away on the second floor on the main street, and can be found by its sign on the sidewalk. It is self run by the owner, and due to the small size, reservations are not possible. The menu is straight forward and comes in a few languages, so it is easy to order.

Kuma-chan which translates to “little bear” has two main dishes on its menu. Roast Beef Donburi & soup curry. Donburi or ‘Don’ is a Japanese “rice bowl dish” consisting of either fish, meat, vegetables or other ingredients simmered together and served over rice. At Kuma-chan they have the Roast Beef Don which comes with raw egg, lettuce, and dried seaweed (nori). Mix it all together and enjoy! The roast beef for these dishes comes in 100, 150, 200 0r 300 grams. Kuma-chan also has soup curry. Take your pick of half a dozen soup curry dishes including chicken, vegetable, lamb or the Kuma-chan special. Topping are extra and the spice level ranges from one to seven. Rice comes with all soup curry bowls. Teas, juices, lassis, beer, and Zimas are on the drink menu.

If you are looking for some Japanese cuisine, Kasyunan is a Japanese restaurant that primarily concentrates on soba and udon noodles plus other Japanese side dishes. The restaurant is located on the sixth floor of the popular shopping mall, called Stellar Place. With plenty of seating, and with its extensive menu, Kasyunan is a good choice for lunch or dinner. The two main noodle dishes in Japan are soba (thin buckwheat noodles), or udon (thick wheat flour noodles). They both come hot, or cold.

The menu comes in a variety of languages, and is pictured, which helps when ordering. The Japanese menu has more on it than the translated menu, so make sure you look at both menus for a full selection! The noodle dishes come with extra toppings or as a side dish as part of a set. The set lunches and dinners are fantastic. Besides the soba and noodle dishes, there are fish dishes, crispy tempura dishes, vegetable dishes, and curry dishes. All are set out in Japanese bowls and dishes. The rice bowls have an option of four different toppings. Kids meals are also available for the young ones. The drink menu has juices, soft drinks, beers, and wines.

Toriton Sushi is a successful chain of restaurants that can be found throughout Hokkaido, primarily in Sapporo. There are four sushi restaurants and two sushi conveyor belt restaurants, also known as kaiten-zushi restaurants, in the Sapporo area. Hokkaido is famous for its seafood and the sushi here is no exception! When looking for a sushi restaurant, Toriton is a great choice. As with all kaiten-zushi restaurants, you pay by the plate, with two pieces of sushi per plate. For sushi restaurants you can order more by pieces. The plate prices range from ¥120 to ¥650 per plate, so you can play it cheap or indulge a little for those high end sushi pieces. They also have noodles and some fried chicken which is a nice option as well. The hot green tea is free, and goes well with your Japanese cuisine experience. If you are looking for something a little stronger, they have beer as well as sake.

Fugetsu is part of a huge chain of Okonomiyaki stores that are found throughout Hokkaido. These usually include eggs and shredded cabbage, green onion, meat (generally thin pork belly, often mistaken for bacon), octopus, squid, shrimp, vegetables, konjac, mochi or cheese.

As with other okonomiyaki restaurants, you can cook it yourself on the hotplates that are in the restaurant. Simply order your ingredients, and then mix them in the bowl. After making a thick paste, pour it onto the hotplate and cook both sides, like a pancake. Simply top it of with fish flakes, mayonnaise, and shaved green dried seaweed. Beer and soft drinks are available to go with. Located in Asabu, (the last stop on the Nanboku line) its an easy restaurant to find for a nice lunch or late dinner. Enjoy!

Ateniyoru is a Japanese restaurant that mixes primarily Japanese oden dishes accompanied with select sake and beer. Oden is a Japanese one-pot dish consisting of several ingredients such as boiled eggs, daikon, konjac, and processed fishcakes stewed in a light, soy-flavored dashi broth. For those who aren’t a big fan of oden, this is definitely still a place to try! Ateniyoru has an array of small dishes to make up a delicious lunch or dinner. The subtle and unique flavors at this restaurant are fantastic, especially if you are looking for a Japanese cuisine experience.

Unfortunately, the menu is only in Japanese, and there are only a few pictures so being with someone who has Japanese ability might be useful. The dishes are mainly seafood dishes plus the oden dishes. There is a great lunch menu, which is recommended, that is sea bream in sauce, plus an oden dish, pickles, flavored tofu, and an amazing tea strained through fish pieces that is used to poor on your rice bowl. Great Japanese cuisine! Ateniyoru also has a large selection of Japanese sake to go with their dishes. Ask their experienced and friendly staff which one to try!.

Sapporo Ginrin is a Japanese restaurant located in the popular shopping center, Stellar Place. The sixth floor of Stellar Place is home to a dozen delicious restaurants, and being directly above Sapporo Station there are some nice views overlooking the plaza, especially in the evening. Sapporo Ginrin has a large selection of seafood. The sushi and sashimi is recommended. Being a Japanese style restaurant, you can order a variety of small dishes so you can savor more than just one dish.
