Suntory is a famous brewer and distillery company throughout Japan. They are best known for their whiskey. They have numerous bars around Japan related to the name. Suntory Jigger Bar opened back in 1984 and can be found in the Tanuki Koji shopping arcade along the 7th block. The bar has counter and outside seating and due to its ample space is the perfect setting for large parties as well. The bar is a comfortable space to enjoy a drink and some good food in a nice setting reminiscent of a good western bar. The name ‘jigger’ refers to the measuring device for pouring shots and cocktails and here you can find over 200 cocktails to enjoy.

There is an all you drink plan for parties, and depending on your plan, includes various cocktails and of course beer (Suntory). The food that comes on the menu, is second to none and is beautifully presented to feast down on. The menu includes a mouth watering handmade pizza (local favorite), plus a cheese platter, olives, and Cajun chicken which is must try. They also have a couple of pasta dishes and numerous side dishes that compliment the beer. With outside seating in the warmer months and a private back room for parties, this is a great  bar to check out. Convenient too as it is near the very center of Sapporo, a stones throw away from Odori and Susukino!

Cafe de Crie has a chain of coffee shops all over Japan. In Hokkaido, they have three locations, all in Sapporo. These coffee shops have a good menu and nice, comfortable settings. These coffee shops are very affordable and you can find a good range of coffees and teas. As with other cafes, they have sandwiches, toasted snacks, cakes and cookies, but unlike other places they also have a couple of small pasta dishes to enjoy. The food here is really good value, and pretty good!

Two of the locations are right next to Odori Park, and just around the corner from the Sapporo Clock Tower. This makes Cafe de Crie a nice and convenient place to grab a coffee and a small lunch during the day. They have wifi as well which is a bonus, plus some of the seating areas have power sockets for your laptops and phones and that is not too common in other cafes. If you enjoy the coffee here, you can take some home with you. Cafe de Crie has its own brand of coffee and tea to take home, or to give as a present. These products are sold in store.

They are equally skilled at offering some heavenly desserts to go with a hot cup of tea or coffee (something to enjoy before a flight at the airport perhaps).

The interior of the cafe’s have been designed to create an English style atmosphere. You can enjoy a nice hot drink in comfortable surroundings. The savory food on the lunch menu includes mainly Italian style dishes. Try some of their pastas or sandwich rolls! The desserts at the cafe include huge hot cakes drizzled with goodness, parfaits, and ‘Shiroi Koibito’ ice creams. Ouchi is a small soup curry restaurant. It can found in a popular restaurant area at the entrance of the west seven, Tanuki Koji shopping arcade.  It is open for lunch and all through until late evening, for dinner. Ouchi opened originally in 2002 and not only sells fine soup curry, but they also have western style cuisine and some delicious desserts (which you usually don’t find at other soup curry restaurants). The soup curry’s base is made with stewed pork born, chicken and plenty of vegetables with more than 20 kinds of spices added into the mix.

The menu is large. First, let’s take a look at the soup curries that they have to offer. There are nine soup curries on the menu. Their specialties include ‘Chicken or Pork with 16 vegetables curry’ , ‘Furano Pork Hamburger soup curry’ , a ‘Nato Curry’, and a nice ‘Hokkaido Roasted Cacho Cavallo and bacon soup curry’ (title picture).  At this soup curry restaurant you have a choice of three soup base flavors, spicy, prawn, or an onion flavor curry. Their other menu includes pastas, pizzas and salads! Their dessert menu is also extensive. If you want to enjoy a party here, they have a party plan that comes with an all you can drink option at ¥2500.

Located above Sapporo station, on the 6th floor of Stellar Place
Sapporo Stellar Place 6F, 2-5 Kitagojo Nishi, Chuo-ku, Sapporo

This interestingly named store is a chain of restaurants that can be found throughout all of Japan. There is only one ‘Hole in the Wall’ in Hokkaido and that can be found directly above Sapporo station in the Stellar Place shopping center on the 6th floor. These restaurants originally started as far back as 1952 and were one of the few that started to specialize in spaghetti. Back at that time, Italian food was still very new to Japan so there is a lot of history behind these stores. To make it more familiar with Japanese people they used Japanese ingredients making their own “Japanese-style spaghetti.”

This Japanese, Italian fusion cuisine has some interesting dishes on its menu. Hole in the Wall has five types of raw pasta, including spaghetti, tagliolini and tagliatelle. The menu has over thirty different pastas to choose from, many with toppings with a Japanese flavor such as squid, fish eggs, sea urchin and dried sea weed to name a few. There are lunch sets that come with a salad and drink. The antipasti menu has prosciutto, french fries in garlic butter, or garlic toast. Hole in the Wall also have some nice steak dishes on their main dishes.
