The city of Obihiro is famous for its butadon restaurants and Tokachi Pork Bowl Ippin is one of the best in Obihiro. But you don’t have to travel all the way to Obihiro savor this delicious dish as you can visit one of the chains in Sapporo. Butadon is thick grilled pork slices in a caramelized soy sauce on a bed of rice. It usually comes with miso soup and is served hot. This dish is absolutely fantastic and if eat pork, then it is a must try while in Hokkaido!
These pork dishes are succulent and they are famous for the mouth watering fragrances that flow from the restaurants. The pork loin which are from Hokkaido, is baked over charcoal, so there is no extra fat. The sauce used is from Sorachi and this company has been producing their product for over sixty years. Sitatte Sapporo is a business center in central Sapporo. This modern looking building has restaurants, coffee shops, and event spaces on its premises. Sitatte is best known for its ‘Step Garden’ which acts as a meeting spot and a spot to sit and relax. The name Sitatte combines the words ‘sit’ and ‘atte’ (atte meaning ‘to meet’ in Japanese). The step garden is also acts as a symbol for this building. The step garden entrance is on the basement floor and extends from the Chikaho Underground Walkway. This underground walkway connects Sapporo station to Odori park and is a busy pedestrian space.
The space is made mainly from wood and is a quiet spot in the middle of the busy city. It is located on the corner of Sapporo’s main street “Sapporo Ekimae-dori” and “Kita 3-jo-dori”, which is said to be the first modern street in Sapporo. Take a seat anyway in the step garden and you can enjoy the free wifi offered here, plus you can enjoy a nice cup of coffee from the small coffee shop here, Marumi Coffee. The rest of the building from the ground floor up consists of offices and businesses. There are half a dozen restaurants here as well to get some lunch or dinner. The building has been built with modernity in mind. It is an office building that is energy-saving and environmentally friendly.

Keyaki is a ramen shop with its main store in central Sapporo in Susukino. Its two other stores can be found at the New Chitose Airport. One is at the international terminal, located at the Hokkaido Ramen Dojo. The other being in the domestic terminal. The ramen here is really good, and is full of so much flavor and color that is not often found at other ramen stores. The ramen at the Hokkaido Ramen Dojo area is particularly delicious. The first store opened in November 1999, in the Susukino district. It has been specializing in miso ramen ever since.
The restaurant (unlike the restaurants at the airport) is not big by any standards and has enough seating for ten people. It is not uncommon to see lines waiting to enter its doors and enjoy a hot ramen. The ingredients that make up the ramen have been carefully chosen over the years. The soup is made from pork and free range chicken from Niigata plus vegetables including shiitake mushrooms. It takes 10 hours to complete the process. Giving their ramen its vivid color are a selection of vegetables including white green onions, purple cabbage, bright carrots, and black mushrooms. The thick pork shoulder has been carefully stewed in a secret homemade soy sauce. Enjoy!

For those who are on their journey out of Sapporo and are looking for one final taste of delicious Hokkaido ramen, then there is still one more chance! You can dine on a last ramen lunch or dinner at the Hokkaido Ramen Dojo. Hokkaido Ramen Dojo is an arcade that runs through the dining area of the New Chitose Airport. This arcade contains ten of some of the most popular ramen restaurants throughout Hokkaido. The arcade is located on the third floor and is easily recognizable by the giant map of Hokkaido made out of ramen bowls!
When entering this area we suggest not diving into the first ramen store you see. Take your time and look around. Each of these ramen restaurants have their own unique taste and extra toppings. They all have your three main flavors, being miso flavored, shio (salt) flavored broth and shoyu (soy sauce) flavored soup, but one of the biggest pulls for this collection of ramen stores is that the stores here have extras for your ramen that can’t be found outside of the airport. All the menus here and the staff are catered for travelers from afar so you will be fine if you don’t speak or read any Japanese. So, for ramen lovers, definitely poke your nose (and your taste buds) in and have a look.

Ramen Tokinoie is one of those cozy ramen places that are open to the early hours of the morning. Being in Susukino, which is the nightlife district of Sapporo, this ramen store is a popular spot for late night revelers after a night out on the town. It can be found just down the street from Rad Brothers and Booty nightclub and is can be identified by the large rooster above the entrance. It is also not a far walk from Nakajima Park. The ramen here is your standard fare but it hits the spot, especially on the way home from town.
There is mainly counter seating, though there is a small booth for up to six (at a squeeze) at the back of the restaurant. The menu here comes in English as well as Japanese and it pictured so choosing your order is no problem. They have miso ramen, salt ramen and a popular spicy miso ramen! For take away you can get some fried rice or handmade pork slices. The soup here uses Nagoya ‘Cochin’ chicken (hence the chicken above the door) and simmered bringing out its nice flavors. The salt used in its flavors comes from crystallized saltwater from Mongolia.

The UCC Cafe Plaza is a pleasant ding & cafe restaurant in Sapporo. It is one of many restaurants that line the underground shopping walkway, Aurora Town. Aurora Town can be found running directly underneath Odori Park in the middle of town. The cafe is a good spot to enjoy a fresh coffee, or a very affordable lunch, or both! They also have some delicious desserts as well. Why not try one of their signature waffles. UCC Cafe Plaza uses the siphon method for brewing their coffee, which delivers an aromatic and flavorful cup of coffee. Their drip method can be seen as you enter the cafe.
The coffees here are pretty good and cheaper than most other coffee shops in the area. They have a whole variety of sandwiches that come with a salad. There is also a nice Japanese style curry plate. There is a set menu option with their dishes. These come with a salad and a coffee. Enjoy! UCC Cafe Plaza is well known for its waffles. They have half a dozen waffles dripping with fruit, honey, syrup and other sweet goodness. Also keep an eye on their seasonal menu. You can pick up something sweet or savory here as well.
