Opened in 1873, the Tanuki Koji shopping arcade is one of the oldest shopping streets in Hokkaido. The covered arcade extends for 200 metres and is broken up into seven blocks. It runs directly between Odori and Susukino subway. With around 200 stores including restaurants, bars and hotels, it is one of the most popular shopping areas for tourists. The ‘Tanuki’ or ‘Raccoon Dog’ has long been steeped in Japanese folklore and is the symbol of the shopping arcade. There are also a couple of festivals that are held here during the year.

Ushitei is a delicious chain of restaurants of grilled mince steaks, that are served with a selection of cooked vegetables in an array of sauces to choose from. The Ushitei chain was originally opened in 1981 in Sapporo, under a different name. In the early days, the main ingredient was steak, but since then, the mince steak was added as a “Sauté of Meat” dish. This combination with their special sauces and side dishes makes for a great lunch or dinner.

When ordering at Ushitei, the mince hamburg steaks range from 150 grams to 350 grams in sizes. The dishes come with a side rice dish. The set menu option comes with a drink and with a soup option. There are a number of soup dishes to choose from, as well as the hamburg sauce. Take your choice of three sauces to dip into. And for an extra couple of hundred yen you can order toppings to add to your dish! The drink menu has juices, coffees, and select beers that will go with your sizzling meal. Enjoy!

Pomme’s No Ki, which translates to `Tree of Pomme’ is a delicious omelette and rice restaurant that can be found in the Stellar Place shopping center dining area. The dining area is located conveniently above hustle and bustle of Sapporo station. This quick and easy (and reasonably priced restaurant) is a good chance to try an ‘omelette & rice’ dish, which is a popular cuisine in Japan. Omelette & rice, or better known as ‘Om Rice’ comes with a variety of toppings to make for a nice lunch or dinner.
[the_ad id=‘4264’]

There are two main menus that can be found at Pomme’s restaurant. There is the the ‘Grand Menu’ where you can find dishes such as the chicken and spinach cream sauce, mentaiko & mayonnaise, or the seafood & tomato cream doria. The other menu is a seasonal menu. It is on this menu, that you can find unique dishes that are available for a limited time! These dishes change with the seasons. With plenty of seating and for a taste of omelette & rice, ‘Tree of Pomme’ is worth a try.
