Comfortable rooms
The Red Ski House is a family run bed and breakfast with the aim of providing comfortable western style accommodation within a friendly, relaxed atmosphere in the powder heaven that is Niseko, Japan. Shuttle bus
The Red Ski House has a large kitchen for cooking up some meals and a huge dining room area where you can sit, eat, and chat about your day on the snow. During the ski season, a shuttle bus service runs continuously from the lodge to the ski lifts all day. They also have a pick up service from the welcome center, and Kutchan station (booking necessary). Your Australian and Japanese hosts Andrew and Kaori have local knowledge of Niseko and can help with bookings, rental equipment, lessons, and are only too happy to help make your Niseko ski holiday the best ever !

Steak set with sauce
Ikinari Steak is a huge chain of steak stores that are located throughout Japan, Hokkaido included. There are four stores in Sapporo (check map above), with another four located throughout Hokkaido, in the towns of Asahikawa, Kushiro, and Obihiro (see map below). What makes Ikinari steak such a popular brand, is their diverse menu at affordable prices. Though you may not be getting pricy, thick steaks, you will be getting a decent lunch or dinner, especially if you have a meat craving.

Tomato based pasta
As with all Japanese steak sets, you will receive a few vegetables, plus a sauce to dip or pour over your steak (the blue cheese sauce is quite nice for an extra hundred yen). Side dishes include a choice of rice or bread. With Ikinari Steak, you will also be given a small hot plate on which you can sear your steak (after cutting), to your desired texture. All the menus have generally the same choice of cut of meat, though each shop varies slightly in its desserts, and side menus. If you don’t like steaks, then there are pastas and a few alternative dishes on the menu!

Ushitei is a delicious chain of restaurants of grilled mince steaks, that are served with a selection of cooked vegetables in an array of sauces to choose from. The Ushitei chain was originally opened in 1981 in Sapporo, under a different name. In the early days, the main ingredient was steak, but since then, the mince steak was added as a “Sauté of Meat” dish. This combination with their special sauces and side dishes makes for a great lunch or dinner.

When ordering at Ushitei, the mince hamburg steaks range from 150 grams to 350 grams in sizes. The dishes come with a side rice dish. The set menu option comes with a drink and with a soup option. There are a number of soup dishes to choose from, as well as the hamburg sauce. Take your choice of three sauces to dip into. And for an extra couple of hundred yen you can order toppings to add to your dish! The drink menu has juices, coffees, and select beers that will go with your sizzling meal. Enjoy!

Pomme’s No Ki, which translates to `Tree of Pomme’ is a delicious omelette and rice restaurant that can be found in the Stellar Place shopping center dining area. The dining area is located conveniently above hustle and bustle of Sapporo station. This quick and easy (and reasonably priced restaurant) is a good chance to try an ‘omelette & rice’ dish, which is a popular cuisine in Japan. Omelette & rice, or better known as ‘Om Rice’ comes with a variety of toppings to make for a nice lunch or dinner.

Korean Kitchen Shijan, as the name suggests, is a Korean restaurant that can be found in the busy shopping complex of Stellar Place. It is part of the dining section which makes up the 6th floor. The Korean dishes are a delicious way to spend lunch or dinner, or even as a break from a days shopping in this popular shopping area. You can enjoy a good selection of Korean dishes from this enjoyable restaurant.

Ukimido Park is a great sightseeing spot and a good place to get some photos on the shores of Lake Toya. The park can be easily recognized by its stone sculptures and its small outcrop where the iconic shrine is located. The shrine, surrounded by the tranquil waters of Lake Toya make for a great photography opportunity, in any kind of season. The shrine is only a five minute walk from the main car park, which is located on the northern side of lake.

The park has paths that intertwine making for a pleasant walk through the warmer months. The park, as with most of the parks around Lake Toya, has large sculptures arranged around its grounds. The small island that the shrine is on, was once part of a hill that was formed when the caldera was formed 110,000 years ago. Ruins from this period, known as the Jomon period, can be found around this small island! The large car park that sits right next to the park has plenty of spaces so parking is not a problem.
