Choose a slice with your coffee

On the 6th floor of Stellar Place, there are plenty of restaurants to choose from. Located in the middle is the ‘La Maison Ensoleille Table’. It is a western style restaurant that not only serves up lunches and dinners, but it has an extensive collection of cakes and pastries that will go well with the teas and coffees that are also on the menu. The cakes are splendidly laid out at the front of the restaurants entrance. They also have a seasonal food and drink menu to enjoy as well.

Eggs benedict with ham & salmon

The menu has a few pasta dishes with some great sauces, risottos, and some oven dishes such as an oven baked beef stroganoff or the stewed mozzarella cheese and tomato sauce with hamburger. La Maison Ensoleille Table is also one of the few places that serves up an eggs benedict with salmon (which technically makes it an ‘egg royale’). The desserts here are fantastic such as the french toast caramel apple pie. You can enjoy these desserts with a selection of herbal teas, coffees and other beverages.

Iconic exterior

The Sapporo Clock Tower is one of the famous icons of the city and is located in centre of the Sapporo, right by Odori park. It is the perfect sightseeing spot and easy to drop into while exploring the city. The clock tower was built in 1878, and is the last remnant of the drill hall of the former Agricultural College, which is now Hokkaido University. Being one of the earliest remaining buildings in Sapporo, it is an interesting look back into the history of Sapporo. The city itself was chosen as the administrative centre of Hokkaido in 1868, which is the date currently recognized as the official birth of the city.

2nd floor interior

The clock tower’s wooden exterior is characteristic to that of American architecture during the frontier era. The building has two accessible two stories and has recently been repainted in its original light green color. The first floor serves as an exhibition room with photos, dioramas, and objects introducing the history of the Agricultural College and the development of Sapporo. There is also a library and souvenir store here. The clock in the building was installed in July 1881 by E. Howard & Co. and the second floor has a working clock showing the mechanics of the design. At only ¥200, the popular Sapporo Clock Tower is an informative and cheap sightseeing spot.

Chicken soup curry with vegetables

If you are in the entertainment district of Sapporo, and are looking for a late dinner, or one of those extremely late “grab a bite after a night out” scenarios, then Kuma-chan could answer those needs. It is a tiny, comfy restaurant settled in downtown Susukino. It is tucked away on the second floor on the main street, and can be found by its sign on the sidewalk. It is self run by the owner, and due to the small size, reservations are not possible. The menu is straight forward and comes in a few languages, so it is easy to order.

Cozy Kuma-chan

Kuma-chan which translates to “little bear” has two main dishes on its menu. Roast Beef Donburi & soup curry. Donburi or ‘Don’ is a Japanese “rice bowl dish” consisting of either fish, meat, vegetables or other ingredients simmered together and served over rice. At Kuma-chan they have the Roast Beef Don which comes with raw egg, lettuce, and dried seaweed (nori). Mix it all together and enjoy! The roast beef for these dishes comes in 100, 150, 200 0r 300 grams. Kuma-chan also has soup curry. Take your pick of half a dozen soup curry dishes including chicken, vegetable, lamb or the Kuma-chan special. Topping are extra and the spice level ranges from one to seven. Rice comes with all soup curry bowls. Teas, juices, lassis, beer, and Zimas are on the drink menu.
